The Brunswick Valkyries graduated a big senior class in spring 2022, and the player pool needed time to refill those influential roles. Math Club—Teaching Math One Step at a Time with Brunswick's Sandi Sturgill
Sandi Sturgill is a dedicated 8th grade teacher at Brunswick Middle School. She goes above and beyond her regular teaching duties by offering math tutoring sessions every Tuesday to help her students understand complex math concepts. In addition to that, she also runs the Math Club, where students can explore their passion for math and participate in exciting activities that enhance their critical thinking skills. By providing her students with these opportunities, Sturgill helps them develop a deeper appreciation for mathematics and encourages them to pursue their academic goals with confidence and enthusiasm.

High schoolers invited to audition for Shining Star CLE
The eighth annual Shining Star CLE 2024 singing competition, spearheaded by the Mandel Jewish Community Center of Cleveland, is now accepting auditions. Scheduled for Sept. 22 at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland, the solo singing competition is for teens from 10 Northeast Ohio counties who compete for college scholarships – Ashtabula, Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, Stark, Summit and Wayne counties – and includes home-schooled students. Participants will have the chance to compete for $18,500 in college scholarships and perform at Playhouse Square. Judges, who are music professionals, then choose the top four winners. The live audience will also be a part of the voting process, according to a news release.
