Jolly Jingle application deadline approaching

The City of Janesville has announced the details for this year’s Jolly Jingle holiday lighted parade. Downtown Janesville Inc, Avondale Roofing and the Janesville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau are partners with the City in presenting the event. Organizers are looking for community groups and organizations, bands, businesses, non-profits, church groups and other community stakeholders to be a part of the 2026 event. The deadline to apply has been extended to Thursday, Nov. 12. There is no entry fee to be involved. Prospective participants are asked to complete the following steps: Mail, email, or drop off application.Write a brief description of each parade entry. This will be read by the parade announcers stationed at the Marvin W. Roth Community Pavilion and near Hedberg Public Library on Main Street.Provide a copy of a valid driver’s license of the driver and a proof of liability insurance forentries that will require a vehicle.. Rock County content creator is bringing back the joy of waiting for the mail with her Midwest Mail Club

JANESVILLE — Today's world is as fast-paced as it's ever been. Nearly everything people want or need is just a few clicks away. But one Rock County content creator is hoping to bring back the excitement of checking the mail. Not email, but the kind that shows up in a box near the road. Morgan Geyer has built an online following through her creative projects and nostalgic content. She recently launched a monthly mail club that delivers a collection of vintage-inspired items, recipes, newspaper clippings and other surprises directly to subscribers. “I feel like people, especially right now, are just itching for nostalgia,” Geyer said. “I feel like people are just missing the physical aspect of things.” Geyer began creating content about four years ago after the COVID-19 pandemic prompted her to stay home with her young children. A longtime creative, she began sharing videos of the crafts and projects she was working on. As people began responding to her content, the hobby gradually developed into a career. Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church to host its Annual Holiday Bazaar

JANESVILLE — Rock Prairie Presbyterian Church will host its annual Holiday Bazaar Friday, Nov. 6, and Saturday, Nov. 7, offering visitors an opportunity to shop for holiday gifts, enjoy homemade treats and support local charitable organizations. The bazaar will run from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. both days at the church, 8605 E. County Road A, Janesville. People can browse a variety of handmade crafts and seasonal items, including ornaments, floral arrangements, quilted items and holiday decorations. The event also will feature a large selection of homemade Christmas cookies sold by the pound, along with other baked goods such as nut breads, bars and homemade candy. A Christmas cafe will be open during the bazaar, offering a variety of lunch options, including soups, barbecue, chicken croissant sandwiches and taco salads. Homemade pies also will be available. Proceeds from the annual bazaar will benefit several local organizations and missions that provide services and support throughout the community. Organizations receiving donations include The Boys and Girls Club, ECHO, GIFTS Men’s Shelter, HealthNet, House of Mercy, the Milton Food Pantry, Project 16:49, the Salvation Army and YMCA alternatives. Ember and Iron brings men's clothing back to Janesville's downtown

JANESVILLE – Ember & Iron has a poetic catharsis to it, even if the casual observer doesn't know the secret behind the new downtown retail store's name. Claudine Manor named her new independent clothing store a year ago; it simply took her a year to find the new location. Manor had previously operated Savannah and Pearl boutique in Edgerton at the former Lake House Inn supper club, which was destroyed in a fire Oct. 1, 2025. The Lake House fire prompted Manor to reconsider what she wants to do. The two elements left behind by the fire were Ember & Iron. Manor decided to take the two elements, as words, Ember & Iron, as a concept, a statement of renewal — of what she's doing now. And what Manor's doing is a pretty bold thing in downtown retail. She's designed and built out a storefront retail store with half the floor dedicated to new men's fashion – a retail offering otherwise nearly absent in Janesville's downtown. Ember & Iron is on the street level at 319 W. Milwaukee St. in a space that once housed the former Monterey Hotel lobby and restaurant. The building's upper six floors now house apartments.

More than 67,800 voters turn out in Rock County, making real turnout more than half of eligible voters

JANESVILLE — Despite rainy weather Tuesday, more than 67,800 voters cast ballots in Rock County’s Nov. 3 general election, an increase of more than 2,200 voters compared to the 2022 election. Rock County Clerk Lisa Tollefson said 67,812 voters cast ballots. That represents a little more than half of the 129,654 eligible voters in Rock County. Unofficial election results can be found on the Rock County website. Tollefson said the voter registration numbers displayed on the county’s website reflect registered voters as of 20 days before the election. Based on that figure of 97,850 registered voters, the turnout would be just under 70%. However, Wisconsin allows voters to register on Election Day, meaning the number of eligible voters can differ from the number of registered voters listed before the election. Tollefson said she noticed increased engagement during this year’s election, including a larger number of election observers. At Janesville City Hall, she said there were six observers. She said there was a steady flow of voters throughout the day. While there were occasional bursts of activity, turnout remained consistent. Beloit Turner takes a big step toward a winning culture

BELOIT — For the past few years, I’ve used this as a time to reflect on the football fortunes of Beloit Memorial and Turner and how close the programs are to establishing the winning cultures both desire. That won’t exactly be the case this season. First of all, I don’t have a clue what is going on with the Purple Knights. I’m not sure anyone does. All that is really known is that head coach Brad Dement has resigned. How many assistant coaches from his staff will return next season is unknown. The team finished 0-9 and was outscored 123-14 the last three weeks after Dement left the team. Then there’s the school’s feeder system for football. Due to cost cuts, there is no middle school football program anymore. The Beloit Football Academy stepped in to produce grade-school teams this fall, but what that means for the future is also uncertain. That schenario has worked pretty well elsewhere, with strong oversight and direction from the high school coaches involved. New Athletic Director Robert Douglas will need to sort all this out and then yet another coach will try to rebuild a program that hasn’t produced a winning team since 1999.

Milton School District seeks Wall of Honor nominations

MILTON — Nominations are open for the Milton School District’s 2027 Wall of Honor. The Wall of Honor, which is in the high school commons, recognizes former students, alumni, staff and community members with close ties to the district who distinguished themselves through academic, artistic or athletic achievement. Milton School District Superintendent Jeremy Bilhorn and Milton School Communications and Safety Coordinator Kari Klebba co-chair a steering committee. From there, nominations forwarded to a nine-person selection committee made up of district staff, community members and alumni. “We want to celebrate those that have upgraded the culture and the foundations of the district that we love,” Bilhorn said. Boys soccer: Edgerton finishes season as WIAA D3 State Runners Up

MILWAUKEE — Edgerton boys soccer saw its historic 2026 season come to an end on Saturday, as the Crimson Tide fell 3-1 to Saint Thomas More in the WIAA Division 3 state title game. The Tiders (15-1-4) didn’t have a boys soccer team until the year 2012 after head coach Dean Wanless helped pitch the team to the Edgerton school board. The team then didn’t log its first win until the 2015 season. Fast forward 11 years, and Edgerton is coming home as state runners up after the team suffered its first and only loss of the season in the state title match Saturday night. This year’s trip to State also marked the program’s first-ever trip to the big dance. “It’s been an incredible journey,” Wanless said. “To have players that put us in a position to be competitive in every game that we play and to get us to the state tournament, it’s a dream.
