During the Discovery Center’s Puppy Pals Live event on July 26, guests observed talented su-paw-stars perform three shows inside the Discovery Center Museum, 711 N. Main Street. Puppy Pals Live, as seen on America Got Talent in 2020, is a comedic stunt dog show featuring adopted and rescued dogs that perform stunts and comical tricks.

Fire at Rockford Apartment Complex Causes $275,000 in Damages
More than two dozen firefighters battled a blaze at a 4-family apartment unit in Rockford late on Wednesday night (7/24). According to the incident report from the Rockford Fire Department, crews responded to 2106 Auburn Street around 9:13 pm on Wednesday and when they arrived on the scene, heavy fire was reported from 2 second-story windows.

Freeport police investigate after home hit by gunfire
FREEPORT, Ill. (WIFR) - The Freeport Police Department asks for information as they investigate a shots fired report late Thursday. Just before 10:30 p.m. on July 25, Freeport officers received a Sound Thinking alert in the 500 block of S. Pine Avenue. Officers on scene say they found evidence of a firearm being discharged in the street. According to the Freeport Police Department, a home in the area was struck by gunfire.
Disco Chicken offers late-night eats, rooftops views in downtown Rockford
ROCKFORD — A new restaurant with electronic music vibes, late-night hours and rooftop views has opened in downtown. Disco Chicken, 212 E. State St., is the latest venture from chef and restaurateur Paul Sletten. He also owns Abreo and Social Charcuterie Bar & Cocktails in downtown as well as the Bad Humor ice cream truck, VeeDubs mobile cocktail bar and the food truck version of Disco Chicken that launched five years ago.

Just a few days after a couple abandoned a pregnant cat in the alley of a Rockford animal shelter, someone else left two turtles in a bucket outside the same shelter. About a week ago, a man and woman were identified after dumping a pregnant cat in the alley of Noah's Ark Animal Sanctuary in Rockford. Now, the shelter is searching for a woman who abandoned two turtles in a bucket outside their establishment.
