Ryan Day attends son's final high school game ahead of massive clash with Oregon
Ohio State has a massive game Saturday afternoon at home against Oregon in a game many consider to be a playoff eliminator for the loser. However, Buckeyes head coach Ryan Day took Friday night to turn his focus towards his family and more specifically, his son RJ . In a massive playoff road game against one of the state's top programs, RJ and St. Francis Desales Stallions took on Massillon in one of the biggest high school venues in the country. It would prove to be RJ's final game as the Tigers rolled to a 48-0 win on Nov. 6. Despite having that built in connection with his dad, RJ won't be a Buckeye at the next level but he will be playing in the same conference that his dad coaches

Aurora HS grad and KSU pre-med student has 'had quite the journey'
Considering the medical issues she has faced over the last few years, Cassidy Trem could be forgiven for wanting to take it easy. Instead, the Aurora High School graduate, when she isn't engaged in her premed studies at Kent State University, is running marathons. "I have had quite the journey," said Trem. After a long recovery from a serious traffic accident, she ran the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon while a high school senior in October 2023. And just a couple of months after undergoing the last of three surgeries for a medical condition unrelated to the crash, she ran the Barcelona Marathon in Spain this past March. And to top it off, Trem is preparing to run in the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon on Nov. 7 after recovering from a recent outpatient procedure related to that condition. Trem says that she is determined to fight through her various issues, but admits that at times she has wondered about her various trials. "I just can't believe these things keep happening to me," she said. In connection with the Indianapolis marathon, Trem is fundraising for Ketchup to Cancer , a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 2025 by Alex Baker, who began running

Akron Garfield boys head basketball coach McNeal Thompson III steps down
McNeal "Coach Mac" Thompson III (Photo: Provided) AKRON, Ohio — According to the team’s Facebook page, Akron Garfield will seek a new head boys’ basketball coach after McNeal Thompson III stepped down following six seasons. When Thompson III was hired, the school was known as Kenmore-Garfield; following a 2016 merger, it was renamed Akron Garfield Community Learning Center. He departs the program in good standing after a 0–16 debut season in 2020. He went on to build the team into a contender, guiding it to its first district berth in 2024 and its first Akron City Series title in 2026 with a victory over crosstown rival Akron Ellet, the first in 25 years. He is a 1999 graduate of Kenmore High School and was also inducted into the King of Court Hall of Fame this past August. "Coach Mac, thank you for your leadership and sacrifices you made to pour into our boys and the community," It said in the Facebook post. "Garfield is better because you were here. You will be missed." An email was sent to APS for comment, as no successor has been named at the time of publication.
