New Piggly Wiggly owner excited to energize De Pere, Kaukauna stores

De Pere and Kaukauna Piggly Wiggly shoppers can expect an experience "above and beyond your normal Piggly Wiggly," according to the stores' future owners . Fox Bros. Piggly Wiggly on Nov. 2 announced it would purchase the stores at 300 E. Ann St., Kaukauna, and 575 Swan Road, De Pere, effective Jan. 31. Mike Olwig, the company's president, said the 100% employee-owned grocery chain turns its special sales, like a one-day meat sale and bratfest, into full-blown events. "We do it above and beyond your normal Piggly Wiggly," Olwig said. "We like to have fun with them. It’s definitely an event in the store." Olwig said the company will look to infuse the same energy into the Kaukauna and De Pere stores next year. The two stores will be the 12th and 13th stores Hartland-based Fox Bros. owns and operates. They'll be the first two in northeastern Wisconsin. When the opportunity arose to buy the two stores from Stoneridge Meat and Country Market, Fox Bros. was excited for the opportunity to continue to grow. "What better way than into new markets? WAUPUN – A common sentiment in Waupun's dining scene is that the city has been lucky with pizza restaurants. Martha and Jim Hopp opened Hopp's Restaurant on Fond du Lac Street in 1965, quickly finding the means in 1969 to move to its longtime West Main Street location, where Main Street Bistro & Bakery stands today. The Hopps ran the business as a mom-and-pop restaurant with a full menu of homemade favorites and a welcoming space to enjoy a cup of coffee, according to The Reporter archives. Weekday breakfast service was often frequented by retirees who got together to solve the world's problems over bottomless coffee and doughnuts.
