Brewer stuns unbeaten Arlington Heights to clinch a share of district title

For the first time since 2021, White Settlement Brewer has clinched a share of the district championship. The Bears did it with style, defeating previously unbeaten Fort Worth Arlington Heights 27-8 Thursday at Brewer Stadium. Brewer (8-2, 6-1) will split the title with Heights (9-1, 6-1) and Fort Worth Wyatt in a three-way tie: Brewer beat Heights, Heights beat Wyatt, and Wyatt beat Brewer. “Super proud of our guys and so happy for our community,” Brewer head coach Marte Amrine Jr. said. “So happy for our program, our kids and our coaches. Because man, it’s a lot. We put a lot of work into it, and our kids come out every morning at 6:15 in practice.” With a point tiebreaker, Brewer took the top seed in District 4-5A Division I and will face Azle (6-4, 3-3) at a time and place to be determined in the UIL bi-district round. “We know we still have work to do,” said Amrine, in his second year leading the program. “We have a lot of dreams and goals that we want to accomplish, and so I’m excited about the next step.” Heights, after trailing 17-0 at the half, made a third-quarter surge but could

A Fort Worth Guide to Texas Red

Chili is splattered all across the history of Fort Worth, from the chuck wagons on the Chisholm Trail to the invention of chili powder at Pendery’s. It fuels our football fans and our Frito pies — and there’s nothing like a belly-filling bowl of red when the weather turns cold (finally). Chili is bold and unpretentious, a hard-working meal that stands on its own … a lot like Texans themselves. But first things first: beans or no beans?

Texas and Tarrant County voters wanted change. Not necessarily Democrats | Opinion

Absolutely nothing about high prices will change Jan. 1 when new faces take over at the Texas Capitol and the Tarrant County Courthouse. The reason we can’t afford gas or Cokes or lunch is in Washington, thinking up more expensive tariffs and wars and prison spending while he designs a $600 million ballroom . That was why voters really turned out Tuesday, and that’s obvious if you look. Texans elected Democrats everywhere who strongly defend public schools . But the same voters also turned down tens of billions of dollars in public school bonds, because whatever school districts want to build or buy, we can’t afford it right now. So this election was all about high prices, not policies. And the war. And establishment corruption. And big business influence, not just for data centers. There’s more to say about Tuesday, but I’ll keep it short: It wasn’t a Democratic mandate Texans still hate both political parties. Just because Texans elected Democrats this week doesn’t mean voters actually like them. Only 34% of Texans like the Democratic party overall, based on the Sept. 25-Oct. 5 University of Texas/Texas Politics Project poll. Meanwhile, 41% of Texans — still less than half —

Angie's bringing upscale fast food for low prices to north Fort Worth

Angie’s fast-food chain, known for serving lobster rolls and USDA prime steak, is opening a Fort Worth restaurant, according to state licensing documents . The restaurant was created by Salad and Go founders Tony and Roushan Christofellis after Tony’s mom, Angie, passed away. They wanted to honor her memory by starting a fast-casual restaurant that served high-quality, “luxury” food at a price that most people could afford. Angie’s menu is made up of USDA prime beef, antibiotic-free chicken, wild caught seafood and other ingredients, organic and free from added preservatives. Salads with chicken start as cheap as $5, steak as little as $7.99 and salmon or shrimp for $11.49. To cater to the true fast-food audience, Angie’s serves burgers and fried chicken and even copycat Taco Bell crunch wrap supremes. But customers also have the option to make a healthy salad, bowl or wrap. How does Angie’s sell fine dining items for fast-food prices? Now, how does Angie’s sell a Maine-imported lobster roll for $16.99? Or a steak Caesar salad for $9.99? Well, according to its website , the restaurant saves money on the business model rather than the supplies. “Think of what Walmart did to retail, what Amazon did

Salgado-Medina makes field goal after recovered onside pooch kick, No. 24 Arizona stuns TCU 29-28

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Michael Salgado-Medina kicked a 37-yard field goal with 39 seconds left after No. 24 Arizona recovered an onside pooch kick and the Wildcats pulled out an improbable 29-28 victory over TCU early Saturday. “It was a great feeling, being able to execute it and work so hard for it,” Salgado-Medina said. “And being able to do it on a big stage like that is an amazing feeling.” The Wildcats (7-2, 4-2 Big 12) pulled to 28-26 on Noah Fifita’s 15-yard touchdown pass to Quincy Craig with 1:45 left, but their 2-point attempt failed. Arizona lined up for an onside kick, and Ian French floated the ball over the Horned Frogs' front line. TCU's Ed Small couldn't come up with an over-the-shoulder catch on the kick and Arizona's Zuri Watson recovered at the Horned Frogs' 26. Salgado-Medina made his field goal four plays later and Tyrese Boss sealed it with an interception, keeping alive the Wildcats' Big 12 championship hopes. Arizona has won seven straight home games, its longest streak since 1993-94. “The players kept believing, the sideline was electric,” Arizona coach Brent Brennan said. “It was just magic the way that thing finished.” Fifta threw for
