All up and down the valley, there’s a palpable excitement in the air. Seniors are graduating from local high schools, capping off a dozen-year journey to get to this once-in-a-lifetime milestone. A lot of hard work and emotion has gone into each one of these kids. But the ride isn’t over yet. Technically, it never ends.
ASD seeking feedback on academic calendar
Aspen School District is once again considering moving up the start of the school year to the beginning of August. The district reached out to parents on May 21 seeking feedback on a proposed 2025-26 school calendar, which shows Aug. 12, 2025, as the first day of classes for students and staff returning to school on Aug. 7. Compared to the approved 2024-25 calendar, this moves proceedings up a week — staff is set to report on Aug. 15, and classes kick back up on Aug. 21.
Aspen school blesses new CBA with AEA
As expected, the Aspen School District Board of Education approved the latest bargaining agreement between the district and the Aspen Education Association. The board held a special meeting on Wednesday morning to approve the collective bargaining agreement, the second in the district’s history. It passed 5-0 on the board after being ratified by AEA membership. AEA Vice President Marnie White said the favorable vote was “nearly unanimous” but declined to disclose a percentage or the union’s level of participation in the vote.
