Barely getting by
It is absolutely wild to me that this valley makes so much money, but every employee still needs three jobs to stay afloat. Something needs to be done! Even if that means going on strike or unionizing. These restaurants, clothing stores and rental shops shouldn’t be breaking records while their...

Scott: Real town of Basalt a jewel tarnished by big city ambitions
It appears the government of Basalt has the real town in its crosshairs. Is it because they are envious about all the independent businesses in the downtown core of the real Basalt — you know, the town that puts the fork in the Roaring Fork, the community at the confluence of the Frying Pan and Roaring Fork rivers, the one that’s been here for over a 100 years?

Vagneur: Of big cows and historical shebangs
Back in the 1970s sometime, we had a big ranching day at the Aspen Historical Society, which I suppose, if one thinks about it, likely makes this a historical narrative. Some people were churning butter, quilters were there, and probably a whole lot more. It was in the days before the Mining and Ranching Museum existed.

Carbondale prepares to spray at Nature Park
On Feb. 14, Carbondale Trustees unanimously approved limited use of herbicides at the Carbondale Nature Park — a popular place for off-leash dog walking — in the early spring and late fall for two or three consecutive years. As its name implies, the 33-acre Nature Park is also home to many wild species, including 134 bird species counted by the Roaring Fork Audubon Society and the native western painted turtle, Colorado’s state reptile.

The Board okayed the consent agenda, including approval of the Fussner minor subdivision on Missouri Heights and excluding a subdivision plat in Rifle due to a lack of information.

All three Eagle County Commissioners planned to vote no on The Fields development. That led to developer Evan Schreiber asking for an extension, and then withdrawing his application when commissioners declined to give one. The Fields would have added 135 homes to a 20 acre parcel across Highway 82 from...

His next event will be on March 28 at Copper Mountain. From April 7-11, he will defend his 2022 title in nationals at Copper Mountain.

Host, socialite Amy Green — who threw the event with her husband, sports teams owner Gary — got on stage with fellow female attendees to show off their moves to songs like “It’s Tricky.” McDaniels was the ultimate hype man, telling the crowd of the legendary group’s name (which actually stands for members names or Devastating Mic Controller): “Sometimes I tell [people it’s for] Darryl makes cash, or Darryl makes cookies, or...
