Eugene eyes red-light, speed cameras to curb fatal crashes
Traffic and red-light cameras could be coming to Eugene's streets. Despite public backlash surrounding Flock cameras , the Eugene Public Works Department announced Nov. 4 it will collect feedback about whether cameras tied to traffic enforcement can reduce traffic deaths. City officials said cameras could reduce fatal crashes in Eugene if they are installed at high-crash intersections. Eugene Public Works employees said between 2020 and 2024, red-light violations and speeding caused 81 crashes that either killed or seriously injured people in Eugene. The city does not have a timeline for funding or installing cameras. City staff are surveying both City Council members and the community. The city's survey is available at surveymonkey.com/r/eug_safetycameras “We’re still early in the process, and there are many steps ahead before a program like this could implemented,” Logan Telles, transportation planner for City of Eugene Public Works Engineering, said in the announcement. Eugene City Council is scheduled to discuss the proposal at its Nov. 18 meeting. In a video announcing the survey , Telles said red light cameras have been used in other Oregon cities since the 1990s. Salem first implemented red light cameras in 2008 and added speed cameras in 2019 . In 2025 ,

Eugene Raging Grannies keep protest voices loud with political parody songs
EUGENE, Ore. — Colorful hats, familiar tunes and pointed lyrics are helping a group of older women in Eugene keep their political message in the public ear. The Eugene Raging Grannies use song as a form of protest, writing and rehearsing political parodies of popular tunes biweekly at the United Methodist Church. Dressed in sweaters, scarves and sewn hats, the group pairs its “granny” look with pins and protest songs aimed at speaking out on issues they care about.

Ceremonies, parades and events in the Mid-Valley for Veterans Day 2026
A ceremony at the Oregon State Capitol in Salem and a parade in downtown Albany highlight the Veterans Day event schedule in the Mid-Valley. Veterans Day, always celebrated Nov. 11, is the day set aside to thank and honor all those who served honorably in the U.S. Armed Forces. It should not be confused with Memorial Day, observed the last Monday in May. Memorial Day honors military personnel who died serving their country. Veterans Day also remembers those who died but is intended to thank living veterans for their service and sacrifices. In Oregon, we thank and honor an estimated 235,000 men and 26,000 women across the state for their service during wartime and peacetime, according to the Oregon Department of Veterans' Affairs.Veterans Day originally was called Armistice Day, first observed in 1918 at the end of World War I. The Allies and Germans signed the armistice on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. Congress called for an annual observance in 1926, and Nov. 11 became a national holiday in 1938. It was renamed Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all veterans who served in later wars or in peacetime. Salem-area residents can celebrate Veterans
