Georgia freshman wide receiver Sacovie White was arrested early Saturday morning on two misdemeanors for “reckless driving” and another titled “one-way roadway,” according to the Athens-Clarke County jail website .

Per his arrest record, White was booked into the jail at 3:04 a.m., posted a $26 cash bond 16 minutes later and was released exactly one hour later at 4:04 a.m.

White, a product of the 2024 recruiting class, spent the spring with the Bulldogs as an early enrollee and even practiced with the Bulldogs ahead of Georgia’s Orange Bowl win over Florida State after committing to the Bulldogs in October last year.

White scored a 26-yard touchdown during the annual Red and Black Spring game last month while helping put the Black team ahead late in the fourth quarter. Although the game would end in a 20-20 tie, White appeared to set the tone for his career in Athens.

As of this report, it is unclear whether White will face disciplinary action from the Georgia football team.

Coming out of Cass (GA) High School, White was a three-star recruit, according to the On3 Industry Rankings, which is a proprietary algorithm that compiles ratings and rankings from all four primary recruiting media services. He was the No. 431 player in the 2024 cycle, and No. 69 wide receiver overall.

“I’m not really worried about the stars, I’m a football player,” White told DawgsHQ about his recruiting ranking back in August.

This isn’t the first time a Georgia skill player has made headlines this offseason. Transfer running back Trevor Etienne faced multiple misdemeanor charges related to driving after driving under the influence in late March. Like White, he quickly posted bond and was released.

Georgia head coach Kirby Smart condemned Etienne for his decision but has since praised his new tailback for how he’s carried himself since his arrest.

“He’s really taken a lot of personal pride in working on his protection. He had a nice pick-up today. He’s learning the offense. Look, the guy’s been a good SEC player for two years. It’s not like he’s a freshman. … He’s a really good player and a really good kid. I’ve been proud of the way he’s handled everything since his deal,” Smart said during Georgia’s spring slate.

Etienne went on to participate in the Bulldogs’ spring game a few weeks later. With Etienne being an established player who is expected to be an instant-impact performer for Georgia next season, it will be interesting to see how Smart handles White’s situation with summer ball looming.
