WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A 10-year-old boy was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after he was allegedly shot by his mother in south Wichita.

The Wichita Police Department says shortly before midnight on Wednesday, officers were dispatched to Hydraulic Avenue and Industrial Street for a reported shooting.

The call was made by the boy, who told dispatchers he had been shot. Wichita police told KSN he was shot by his mother.

Less than a minute later, a Sedgwick County Sheriff’s deputy conducted a traffic stop on a Chevrolet Impala heading north on Interstate 135 and Kansas Highway 15 and found a mother and her son in the vehicle. The boy was suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper left leg.

The deputy called for assistance from WPD and Sedgwick County EMS. The boy was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
