Sedgwick County jail deputy assaulted, inmate facing charges
A detention deputy in the Sedgwick County jail was attacked by an inmate early Monday afternoon, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment. A statement from the Sheriff’s Office said the assault happened around 1:15 p.m. An inmate was out of his cell for an allotted time, and when the time was up, a deputy ordered the inmate back to his cell. The inmate then struck the deputy, knocking him to the ground, and he continued hitting the deputy until he was unconscious. When the deputy regained consciousness and tried to stand up, he was attacked a second time. Another inmate stepped in and helped carry the deputy to a more secure area until help arrived.
