Mavericks Take Game 1 In Central Conference Semifinals
The Shreveport Mavericks took the first step to attempt to become the only team to win back-to-back TBL championships. 🏀 Shreveport edges Sky Kings in game 1 of 2nd round
WICHITA, Kan.—The second quarter of the TBL Conference round 2 playoff game between the Wichita Sky Kings and the Shreveport Mavericks proved to be significant as the Sky Kings had just taken a 41-29 lead over the defending National Champion Mavericks with 4:30 to go in the quarter. After "peel the paint off the floor" pep talk by Shreveport's head coach Steve Tucker, the Mavericks responded with three long range baskets by Shreveport's Ta Jordon and another two point basket over the next 90 seconds made the score 43-41 Sky Kings. The momentum swing had the Mavericks only trailing by 1 at the half 48-47.
Washburn Rural wants winning tradition to continue
TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - The Junior Blues have been awfully impressive this past few years and they cap it off with a Third Place trophy in Wichita. Washburn Rural was senior heavy this season but this was a team that gelled very easily. Their record proves that at 15-5-1. Also, this is the ninth straight season they’ve qualified for the state tournament, 10th overall in school history.
Ron’s Ride passes $5,000 fundraising mark for Special Olympics
The Special Olympics torch is now well on its way to Wichita for the annual State Games. The torch left Emporia shortly after 9 am, with law enforcement and Special Olympians parading down Commercial Street to Hetlinger Developmental Services for a brief stop. Executive Director Jill Burton says the event highlights the longstanding community support for those with developmental disabilities.
Kansas Special Olympics Summer Games commences, guarantees ‘you’ll leave with a smile’
The Kansas Special Olympics Summer Games returns to Maize South High School this weekend. The games commenced with soccer, tennis, and cycling Friday afternoon, followed by the opening ceremony in the evening. The track and field meet will begin Saturday morning.
