Montgomery County Man Arrested on Assault Charges
(Red Oak) A Red Oak man faces assault charges in connection with an incident in the 2300 block of Eastern Avenue in Red Oak early this morning. Montgomery County Deputies were called in to investigate and arrested 60-year-old Robert Wade Abraham on an active Montgomery County Warrant for domestic abuse assault, 2nd offense.
SUV vs Motorcycle Accident in Red Oak
(Red Oak) A Red Oak man suffered possible minor injuries in a SUV vs motorcycle accident in Red Oak. The Red Oak Police Department says the accident occurred in the 1400 block of North 4th Street at approximately 11:53 a.m. on Friday. 67-year-old Annette Archer, of Red Oak, was driving a 2014 Hyundai Tucson, backing onto North 4th Street from the alley on the east side of the roadway. Archer’s view was partially obscured due to parked vehicles along the road. As she was backing onto 4th Street, Archer failed to see a 2017 Harley Davidson being driven northbound by 55-year-old Ronald Lorenz, of Red Oak. Lorenz was unable to maneuver quickly enough to avoid a collision. The motorcycle struck the passenger side rear of the SUV and then tipped onto its side.
Clarinda Lakin child center celebrated Wednesday
(Clarinda) -- Southwest Iowa Families now has a spacious new facility to service its clients. Activities celebrating the Lakin Foundation Child and Family Center's grand opening takes place Wednesday. Public tours of the new building at 117 West Main Street in Clarinda are scheduled between 3:30-to-6 p.m., with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 4 p.m. Sandy Geer is Southwest Iowa Families' administrative director. Though the building's actual opening took place in January, Geer tells KMA News the tour and ribbon-cutting officially marks the project's completion.
Motor Home Fire Near Shenandoah
(Shenandoah) The driver of a motor home that caught fire east of Shenandoah escaped without injury. According to their Facebook page, the Shenandoah Fire Department responded to the blaze at 4:35 p.m. in the area of Hickory, and 202nd Street. When the arrived, the camper was heavily engulfed. Crews knocked down the flames in short order. Firefighters applied foam to further suppress any hot spots from reigniting.
Residents call for action from Iowa DNR on Montgomery County fertilizer spill
(Red Oak) -- A group of Iowa residents are urging the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to act on a fertilizer spill that occurred in Montgomery County. Over 60 residents from 18 Iowa counties signed on to a letter sent to Iowa DNR Director Kayla Lyon, urging the agency to enact "appropriate penalties and civil damages" following an investigation into the spill into the East Nishnabotna River at Red Oak that killed nearly 750,000 fish in almost 50 miles of the river. In early March, the DNR said a valve had been left open over the weekend and discovered early Monday morning at the NEW Cooperative facility in Red Oak, resulting in nearly 265,000 gallons of liquid nitrogen fertilizer spilling into a tributary and subsequently into the Nishnabotna. John Lorenzen is a fisheries management biologist for the DNR's Southwest Iowa district and was among those who conducted surveys along the river. In a previous interview, Lorenzen told KMA News the fish kill was widespread along the river.

Becker: Green Plains Shenandoah CST facility 'mechanically complete'
(Shenandoah) -- Plans for a new technology plant are coming to fruition at Shenandoah's Green Plains location. For nearly two years, work has been progressing on a new $50 million capital investment project to construct a Clean Sugar Technology plant adjacent to Green Plain's biorefinery to produce low-carbon dextrose. The Shenandoah facility is the first of its kind for Green Plains. Now, speaking during a quarterly conference call Thursday, Green Plains CEO Todd Becker says the facility is "mechanically complete."
Council Bluffs Woman Arrested in Montgomery County for Possession of Meth and Other Charges
(Montgomery Co) The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office arrested 28-year-old Rebecca Sue Warren, of Council Bluffs, on Pottawattamie County warrants, Possession of Methamphetamine 1st Offense, and Person Ineligible to Carry Weapons. Warren was transported to the Montgomery County Jail where she was held on $2,000 bond.
