Clarinda council hears fiber optics update from FMTC
(Clarinda) -- Clarinda city officials heard an update on plans to bring fiber optic internet to the community. Meeting in regular session Wednesday evening, the Clarinda City Council heard from FMTC Chief Experience Officer Doug Pals and CEO Kevin Cabbage on construction efforts to bring their fiber internet services to roughly half of Clarinda residents by the end of this year and the remainder by 2026. Under the current proposals, construction efforts would begin in May with most of northwest Clarinda receiving the product this year. Pals says they landed on that portion of the community based on the existing infrastructure already in place.
Head-on crash, on Route N near Maryville, results in injuries to two
In an event that unfolded on Route N, approximately 10 miles southeast of Maryville, Missouri, a collision between a 2020 Honda Odyssey and a 1998 Dodge 2500 resulted in minor injuries to two individuals. The accident, which occurred at 12:08 p.m. on March 23, 2024, involved Becky M. Swinford, 38, of Barnard, Missouri, and Raymond A. Morriss, 66, of Guilford, Missouri.
Red Oak Police Arrest Pottawattamie County Man on Warrant
(Red Oak) Red Oak Police arrested 24-year-old Brandon Lane Good of Council Bluffs in the 200 Block of E. Hammond Street on a valid Mills County Warrant for Violation of Probation. Officers turned Good over to Mills County authorities, where he is being held on a $5,000 bond.
Second Shen police residency hearing set
(Shenandoah) -- Another public hearing is set on a proposed amendment to Shenandoah's police residency ordinance. By a 3-2 vote Tuesday evening, the Shenandoah City Council set the hearing for April 9th. At that hearing, the council will hear public comments on whether to reconsider a 3-2 vote last month to reject the proposed amendment. City officials proposed the amendment to allow Shenandoah Police to hire a part-time out-of-state police officer. Council members set the hearing following another emotionally-charged discussion. Council members Toni Graham and Kim Swank once again voted against the hearing. Among other things, Swank questioned why Omaha resident John Kuebler didn't apply for one of the department's full-time officer positions.

Inside 'the Mill' renovation
(Shenandoah) -- Work continues to bring an iconic Shenandoah structure back to life. In July of 2022, the Shenandoah City Council approved a resolution of support for MALOJA, LLC’s renovation of the former Johnson Brothers Mill Building at 818 West Sheridan Avenue. Since then, MALOJA owner Margaret Brady and her team have been working to restore the venerable structure for future uses. KMA News recently toured the building's interior to gauge renovation efforts. Brady says she took on the project's challenge because something needed to be done with the abandoned structure.
