Burger King in Watkins Glen will show off its new "sizzle" restaurant redesign and treat guests to special giveaways, prizes, free samples and other surprises at a public ribbon-cutting celebration on Saturday, Nov. 7. After closing for months to complete the interior and exterior reimagining of the fast food restaurant, the Watkins Glen BK at 211 Franklin St. reopened in October with a whole new look and added features, including digital ordering kiosks, an enhanced drive-thru, a designated pick-up area and signature interior design elements like the new “King Booth." “We’re excited to bring this newly remodeled restaurant to the Watkins Glen community,” said Don McIntyre, Burger King Division Vice President. “After years of serving guests in the community, we can’t wait for them to experience this state-of-the-art design and create new memories for years to come.” The new “Sizzle” design concept is an extension of the brand’s goal to achieve an 85-90% modern image across the U.S. by 2028, fueled by more than $700 million in investments since the brand announced its “Reclaim the Flame” strategy in 2022. MOSU Asian BBQ & Hot Pot has opened in the former Red Lobster at 655 Jefferson Road in Henrietta. It is the second location for the Albany-based restaurant. The restaurant offers two interactive all-you-care-to-eat experiences: Asian BBQ, in which diners cook their food on gas-fired ceramic charcoal grills, or hot pot, in which they cook their food in broth. Diners have two hours in which to enjoy their meals. The Asian barbecue menu includes beef, lamb, poultry, seafood and vegetable choices. The hot pot menu is made up of broth bases, ranging from mild to spicy, to be combined with meat, seafood, vegetables, noodles and/or rice. The menu offers vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, halal and gluten-friendly options. Its bar also serves craft cocktails, mocktails, wine, beer, sake, soju and an a la carte menu of shareable plates. Café Cómodo , a specialty coffee bar owned by Carol and Travis Cain, is now serving guests through an ongoing café residency inside K. Rae Salon and Spa in downtown Corning. The residency at 114 Pine St. is open to the public from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Café Cómodo is built around the simple idea that coffee brings people together, said Carol Cain, co-owner of Café Cómodo. The coffee bar pairs carefully made specialty espresso with a passion for coffee education, inviting guests to learn about origins, brewing, and flavor, according to a community announcement. Its menu explores new flavor profiles that celebrate co-owner Carol Cain's Latin heritage, alongside the espresso classics regulars count on. Guests can even take Café Cómodo home as the café sells its own specialty roasted beans. Adam Weitsman plans new restaurant at former Metro's in Tioga County

On a late October day, the former Metro's Restaurant and Bar just outside Owego stands empty, engulfed by a backdrop of seemingly endless red, yellow and orange leaves that mark a classic Southern Tier fall. The restaurant on state Route 96, which closed in 2025, had been a mainstay for decades. For one local resident, seeing the empty eatery — a landmark of his childhood — languish was unacceptable. In September, Adam Weitsman, owner of Upstate Shredding - Weitsman Recycling, acquired the property, and he plans to bring the location back to life with a new restaurant. The cuisine will change — Weitsman said the new restaurant likely won't serve Italian fare — but the site's iconic mini golf course will be renovated and reopened to the public.
