Shortly after Tennessee tabbed White to lead its athletic department, White hired the coach he’d initially hired at UCF three years earlier in Heupel, who was 28-8 over three seasons in Orlando with the Knights. White obviously expected Heupel to succeed with the Vols – he wouldn’t have hired him otherwise – but he said last week he’s still been impressed by the job the coach has done in rebuilding a program deep in turmoil at the time in January 2021.
