Tennessee Volkswagen workers vote on union membership in test of UAW's plan to expand its ranks
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) — Ballots were being counted Friday night at a Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where the United Auto Workers union was optimistic it would win a vote to decide whether it will represent the factory’s 4,300 production workers. Union observers watching the vote count by the National Labor Relations Board reported that the union was winning 2,628 to 985 about 2 1/2 hours after the voting ended. The tallies could not be independently verified by The Associated Press, and the NLRB said it would not release totals until all ballots are counted. The vote is a key test of the union’s ambitious drive to expand its reach to nonunion factories across the South and elsewhere. Twice in recent years, workers at the Chattanooga plant have rejected union membership in plantwide votes. Most recently, they handed the UAW a narrow defeat in 2019 as federal prosecutors were breaking up a bribery-and-embezzlement scandal at the union.

Rebuilding The Mental Hospital On Moccasin Bend Would Be A Huge Mistake
I appreciate the park space we have in Chattanooga, and we need more as Chattanooga grows. After hearing the National Park Partners presentation on Moccasin Bend last week, I’m convinced that rebuilding the hospital in the park would be a huge mistake, as the state can find a more suitable location to serve East Tennessee.
