Millbury man gets 6 years for fatal East Toledo shooting
A Millbury, Ohio man entered a plea Monday to involuntary manslaughter for a fatal shooting in September in East Toledo and was sent to prison for at least six years. Cory O’Conner, 45, of the 100 block of Lakeland Drive, had been charged with murder in the death of Christopher Yglesias, who was shot Sept. 30 at Albert and White streets and died in December at a rehabilitation facility in Columbus. His Alford plea in Lucas County Common Pleas Court to the reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter is not an admission of guilt, but he conceded sufficient evidence existed that he risked a more severe punishment if he took his case to trial on the original charges. O’Conner had engaged in a standoff with police in a house in the 1400 block of Albert after the shooting.

Bath and body shop expands to Perrysburg
She’s always been a chef, though not just in the traditional sense. After years of cooking food and desserts, Krystal Szabo decided to also “cook” bath bombs and soaps when she was 19 years old. “I would go home at night [after work] and just start playing around with this stuff,” she said. “I was very holistic. I was into essential oils. One Christmas, instead of making chocolates and candies and sugar cookies, I decided to make lip balm, bath fizzes, little soaps, and things like that.” Since then, she’s found tremendous success over the past 14 years with Green Bubble Gorgeous, a business that specializes in handmade bath products like bath soaps, fragrances, and lip balms, among others.

Pair of Monmouth recruits commit to UT women's basketball
Ginny Boggess has her first commitments as the University of Toledo women's basketball coach. Faith Fedd-Robinson and Evalyse Cole, each of whom signed with Monmouth last fall, have pledged their allegiance to the Rockets. Fedd-Robinson, a 5-foot-11 wing from New Jersey, had more than 1,400 points, 1,000 rebounds, and 400 blocks at Newark Central. She was a three-time all-conference selection and led the state in blocked shots. "You're going to love watching this New Jersey native compete," Boggess said when Fedd-Robinson signed with Monmouth. "Faith is a do-it-all three-level scorer who brings a lot of energy to both sides of the ball. An elite finisher at the rim with patent vision and playmaking skills, she will incite a lot of 'wow' moments from the crowd. Her size and physicality allow her to defend multiple positions and rebound at an elite level to initiate our break."
Findlay resident Kiesel to run 100th and final marathon in Toledo
Deanna Kiesel will never forget the feeling she had when she completed her first marathon 36 years ago in Columbus. “I came across the finish line and I said ‘never again,’” Kiesel said with a laugh. “I am never doing that again.” Turns out that feeling and mentality didn’t last very long. In fact, the Findlay resident has dedicated her life to running, and she will add another memorable moment to her remarkable journey on Sunday. Kiesel will be running in her 100th and final marathon when she tours Toledo in the Mercy Health Glass City Marathon. It will be the 1,230th race that the 60-year-old Tiffin native has taken part in — “That includes 5Ks, 10Ks, half marathons, marathons, triathlons, ultra marathons. I have kept track from day one,” she said — and she is looking forward to spending it with friends before, during, and after the event.
