Toledo double homicide suspect died of apparent suicide, police say
Police on Monday said a suspect in a Nov. 14 double homicide in central Toledo died of an apparent suicide in Cincinnati on Thanksgiving Day. Jorenzo Phillips, 19, was found in an apartment in the 700 block of Clanora Drive, a report said. The Hamilton County Coroner’s Office responded about 8 a.m. Officials said the cause of death was still pending and an autopsy was scheduled for later Monday. The Blade previously reported that Mr. Phillips was dead, though the circumstances were unclear. About a week ago, Toledo police had issued arrest warrants for the teenager following the killing of Kejuan Richardson and Jae’Juan Reid, both 21, in the 2400 block of Rosedale Avenue near Bluff Street earlier this month.

Investigators dug up a property on Chase Street and found their remains in the rubble of a burned down home there about two weeks after they were last seen.

Gunshot victim dies from wound in Toledo
A man has died after police located him with a gunshot wound early Sunday in the 5200 block of Hill Avenue in Toledo, authorities said. Denzel Herron, a 30-year-old North Toledo resident, was transported after he was found at 3:45 a.m. to the University of Toledo Medical Center, the former Medical College of Ohio Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy performed Sunday revealed that Mr. Herron died of a single gunshot wound to the chest, Dr. Diane Scala-Barnett, Lucas County coroner, said. The shooting, which is still under investigation, is the 37th homicide in Toledo in 2023.
