Toledo’s waterline project along Broadway expanded past South Avenue late last week.
The northbound lanes and one of two southbound lanes now are closed between Newberry Street and Walbridge Avenue. Through traffic is detoured at Harvard Circle, and now the first through street back from the Anthony Wayne Trail is Western Avenue.
South Avenue may intermittently be closed at Broadway as the project advances. City officials said in announcing the longer closing that the current work phase runs through mid-June.
A bridge replacement project at the Norfolk Southern railroad yard in South Toledo will require lane closures on Fearing Boulevard for six months starting Monday between Airline and Hill avenues. The city said Fearing may also be closed at night and on weekends at times during this project. The best alternative route for most traffic is Byrne Road, while Hawley Street is the first way to cross the tracks east of Fearing.
Traffic using Hill and the northerly leg of Fearing toward North Detroit Avenue and Buckingham Street will not be affected.

It really pays to be alert when driving through the I-75 work zone in Monroe County. Twice last week while traveling that section, I observed vehicle breakdowns that closed one of the two open lanes, causing massive traffic tie-ups.
Watch the message board signs and any navigation app you may use to be alert for such problems. The best alternative route is M-125, reachable via the Summit Street Connector at northbound Exit 2 and via LaPlaisance and Albain roads at southbound Exit 11. Remember that Exit 9 (South Otter Creek) is closed southbound for the entire construction season.

• I-75: Lane closings are possible near Lime City Road in Rossford, near the Ohio Turnpike interchange, for repairs to the overpass.
• I-75 (Mich.): Lane closings, Exit 5 (Erie) to north of Exit 9 (LaSalle), for roadway reconstruction. Southbound traffic is crossed over to the southbound side. The southbound ramps at Exit 9 and the southbound entrance at Exit 6 (Luna Pier) are closed.
• Ohio Turnpike: Lane closings in both directions between the U.S. 20 (Reynolds Road) and State Rt. 2 (Airport/Swanton) interchanges, and near the State Rt. 66 (Archbold) interchange, for resurfacing.
• I-280: Traffic shifts to the right between State Rts. 2 and 51 for median reconstruction. Two lanes remain open southbound but northbound traffic is reduced to one lane through the zone until mid-August.
• I-475/U.S. 23: No shoulders and traffic is shifted between U.S. 24 (Exit 4) and Angola Road for reconstruction and widening. Ramps from eastbound and westbound U.S. 24 to southbound I-475/U.S. 23 are closed; use the Salisbury/Dussel entrance instead. Monclova Road may be closed at I-475 daily between 7 a.m. and 2 p.m. for overhead bridge work.
• U.S. 24: The eastbound right lane may be closed between State Rt. 64 and Dutch Road for shoulder repair. The right lane is closed between U.S. 127 and Baltimore Street, near Defiance, for pavement repair.
• U.S. 24 (Fearing): Lane closings between Airline and Hill for overpass replacement start Monday. Consider Byrne Road as an alternative route between Airport and Hill.
• State Rt. 2: Lane closings between Port Clinton and the Edison Bridge over Sandusky Bay for repair work. The easterly interchange with State Rt. 53 is closed for construction of new roundabouts at the westbound ramps and at State Road until May 23. Use either the westerly Route 53 interchange or Route 269, then State Rt. 163 to and from Route 53.
• State Rt. 25/U.S. 24 (Anthony Wayne Trail): Lanes closed between Monclova Road and Key Street for rehabilitation. The west leg of Ford Street at the Trail is closed for reconstruction, with a detour via Illinois Avenue.
• State Rt. 163: Closed between the two legs of Bradner Road for work on the Ohio Turnpike overpass. Use U.S. 20 instead between State Rt. 420 and Fostoria Road, or State Rt. 795 between I-280 and Fostoria Road.
• State Rt. 795: Nighttime (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) lane closings for a repaving project between I-75 and State Rt. 51.
• Broadway Street: The inbound lane is closed to through traffic between Harvard Circle and South Avenue for waterline construction between Newbury Street and Walbridge Avenue. The single outbound lane open between South and Danny Thomas Park is very rough and slow.
• U.S. 23/30: Right lane closed in both directions at the State Rts. 53/67 interchange on Upper Sandusky’s north side for pavement replacement.
• State Rt. 25/U.S. 24 (Anthony Wayne Trail): Lanes closed between Monclova Road and Key Street for rehabilitation. The west leg of Ford Street at the Trail is closed for reconstruction, with a detour via Illinois Avenue.
• State Rt. 163: Closed between the two legs of Bradner Road for work on the Ohio Turnpike overpass. Use U.S. 20 instead between State Rt. 420 and Fostoria Road, or State Rt. 795 between I-280 and Fostoria Road.
• State Rt. 795: Nighttime (7 p.m. to 7 a.m.) lane closings for a repaving project between I-75 and State Rt. 51.
• Garden/Albon roads: Intersection closed for roundabout construction until early June. Use Crissey Road or Holloway Road as a north-south alternate, or Airport Highway or Salisbury Road as an east-west alternate.
• U.S. 127: Closed in Defiance County at the Maumee River until May 16 for bridge replacement. Car traffic may detour via State Rt. 18 or Old U.S. 24 to The Bend Road, but large commercial vehicles are detoured via State Rt. 15 and U.S. 24 around the western outskirts of Defiance to get over the river.
