Toledo council approves economic development district at airport
The Joint Economic Development District surrounding Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport will expand by 40 acres. Toledo City Council on Wednesday approved the contract which had been previously approved by Swanton and Monclova townships. “It has been an important tool for fostering development in and around our airport,” said Brandon Sehlhorst, Toledo’s economic development director. The airport's JEDD was developed in 2014 and amended in 2021. The proposed amendment would expand the JEDD by incorporating nine new properties.

Toledo City Council approves settlement for 14 of 16 police protesters
Toledo City Council has approved a payout of $400,000 to settle the claims of 14 of 16 plaintiffs who sued the government alleging Toledo police violated their civil rights with a brutal response at a protest rally on May 30, 2020. Two other plaintiffs in the federal lawsuit have opted not to participate and pursue a jury trial. Council voted 10-0 in favor of the settlement Wednesday. Councilmen Vanice Williams and Adam Martinez were not in attendance. The settlement of the 14 individuals who were protesting police brutality following George Floyd’s death was delayed as the city and attorneys for the plaintiffs negotiated the permanent injunctive language, which was a predicate to settling any monetary claims, the plaintiffs’ lawyer D. Lee Johnson said.
