KING — Trent Lowman and the West Stokes Football program hosted their annual offensive and defensive lineman challenge on July 22. The two-hour event featured 73 athletes from West Stokes, West Wilkes, North Surry, Starmount and South Stokes. “I think today went smoothly even though it was hot and humid, and it looked like everyone enjoyed themselves,” Lowman said. “You have several 7-on-7 competitions through the summer, but they are...

Getting to know Caroline Mabe
DANBURY — North Stokes’ rising senior Caroline Mabe is a three-sport athlete for the Vikings. She plays basketball, softball and volleyball, and her friends and a will to win motivates her in each sport. Her favorite thing about high school is seeing her friends and mother while looking forward to being on the winning side of each sport she plays. Caroline also wants to be able to zone in on what she will do outside of high school after graduating. ...

ACC Basketball: Top 10 returning players to watch for 2024-25 season
2023-24 Averages: 18 PTS, 4.1 REB, 2.5 AST, 48.7 FG%. After deciding to run it back one more season at Wake Forest, Hunter Sallis is primed for a huge year alongside a solid supporting cast for the Demon Deacons. Sallis can score all over the floor with great athleticism and quickness leading to high-flying dunks and active plays on the defensive end. The former First-Team All-ACC guard remains one of the most underrated players nationally and I would not be surprised if he winds up winning Player-of-the-Year in the ACC when the awards are handed out in March.

She helped led her softball team to a conference championship, two conference tournament championships and two regional state playoff appearances. In basketball, a sport she started playing because she lost...
Exciting Launch: Girls’ Flag Football Teams Debut in Forsyth County with Great Enthusiasm
Three high schools in Winston-Salem and Forsyth County are set to introduce girls' flag football teams in the fall, joining schools from Guilford County for league play with an expected schedule of six to eight games. Despite not being sanctioned by the NCHSAA, the interest in flag football has grown, with schools in Charlotte and Raleigh already fielding teams.
Wake Forest football is making a bet in 2024
A 4-8 season isn't fun for anyone. Coaches, players, SIDs, fans, writers. Not a single person has fun during a 4-8 season. The question that (should) come after that is, "Okay, how do we fix this?" With Wake Forest, that was no different. "Why'd it go wrong," Head coach Dave...
Everything Dave Clawson said at the podium during ACC Kickoff
Wake Forest took the stage on Wednesday afternoon in Charlotte at ACC Kickoff. The first man up on the podium was none other than head coach Dave Clawson who is coming off a 4-8 season, the worst mark since the 2015 season for him and the Demon Deacons. Below is a transcript of his time on stage answering questions from reporters in the audience.
Taylor’s Homer Pushes Bootleggers Over Dash 5-4
Bowling Green, Kentucky – Brayden Taylor smacked two extra-base hits, including the go-ahead home run to help the Bowling Green Bootleggers (16-10, 52-40) defeat the Winston-Salem Dash (13-14, 44-49) 5-4 on Thursday at Bowling Green Ballpark. Bowling Green scored in the bottom of the first with Winston-Salem starter Shane...
Wake Forest focusing on reaching standard again
Charlotte — (WLOS) Wake Forest played its first football game before the turn of the 20th century, dating back to 1888. In that almost 140 year history the Demon Deacons have reached just seventeen bowl games. That doesn't lead you to believe that the postseason is an expectation; however, seven of those came in a row under Dave Clawson from 2016 to 2022.
Hot Rods and Dash Washed Out Friday
Bowling Green, Kentucky – Today’s game scheduled for 6:35 PM CT between the Bowling Green Hot Rods and the Winston-Salem Dash has been postponed due to wet grounds. The two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader on Saturday, July 27. First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 PM...

Coach Hilton: Consistency is the key to success for West Ridge
BLOUNTVILLE, Tenn (WCYB) — The 2023 season seemed like it was a little bit of a disappointment at least on paper for the West Ridge football team, but records don't always tell the full story. After starting the season 4-1, injuries lead to Wolves limping down the stretch to...

#ACCKickoff: Wake Forest coach Dave Clawson (AUDIO/VIDEO)
CHARLOTTE: The Wake Forest football program suffered a rare down season under Dave Clawson in 2023. After a run of seven straight bowl seasons, the Demon Deacons crashed and burned with a 4-8 record, including 1-7 in the ACC. An unsettled quarterback situation and injures along the offensive line were too much to overcome. Clawson brought in a transfer quarterback with big passing numbers and that, along with some healthy hogs, might be enough to put the Deacons back in the postseason.
