Two injured in crash on I-90 in Kittitas County Friday

Ben Kokjer leads race for Kittitas County sheriff

KITTITAS COUNTY, Wash. — Ben Kokjer moves closer to becoming Kittitas County sheriff after taking about 77 percent of the vote so far. Kokjer has spent the last 21 years with the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office and has worked in several roles across the department. Kokjer said that time inside the agency helped prepare him for the job. He explained that the department had invested heavily in training and developing employees and said he wants to continue that work. "We're a 104 full-time employee agency. And we're about 140 when you count volunteers. So I need to sit down with every person; that's my first task. I want to sit down and hear expectations and, you know, give some of my expectations as well. So we can start off on a clear path," Kokjer said. During his campaign, Kokjer emphasized professional service, holding offenders accountable and keeping up with the county's growth. He said his focus is building on the foundation left by previous sheriffs and continuing the department's relationship with the community.
