In clash of state champions, Carver wins fourth straight region title
The Carver Tigers (6-4, 4-0) defeated the Worth County Rams (5-4, 3-1) 42-14 Friday night at Odis Spencer Stadium in Columbus to win their fourth straight Georgia High School Association football region title. Last season, Carver won the GHSA Class 2A football state championship, and Worth County won the Class 1A title, but reclassification put them in Class 3A Region 1 this year. Carver took the opening drive and went up 7-0, thanks to a 6-yard touchdown run by senior running back Jamar Williams. The Tigers forced a three-and-out on Worth County’s first offensive drive. Then they extended their lead to 14-0 when senior running back Kaidon Williams scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to end the first quarter. Carver wasted no time getting the ball back and had great field position after senior defensive back Caleb Lewis blocked the punt and freshman defensive end Damonte Huntley recovered it. The Tigers scored their third rushing touchdown of the game, this time by freshman running back Toronto Jenkins for a 21-0 lead. Worth County got on the scoreboard when junior linebacker Noah Martin recovered a fumble for a touchdown, trimming the Carver to 21-7 with 6:24 left in the first half.

FPD can't maintain hot start, falls to St. Anne-Pacelli in home playoff game
Brett Collier had more words than usual as he stood in the middle of players, cheerleaders, families and fans after yet another game. Then he was done, and a path opened for him to depart. And suddenly, a collection of a 100 or so adults and another 100 high schoolers hardly moved, and there was an odd and mournful silence for a collection that large that lasted about a minute. A season-ending loss at home will do that. FPD got off to a dream start, but St. Anne-Pacelli eventually woke up and had a strong second half for a 28-14 win Friday at George S. Johnson Memorial Stadium in a GIAA Class 4A first-round playoff game. “They’ve got really good team speed,” said Collier, whose team lost 22-21 to St. Anne Pacelli on the same field to, ironically, open the season. “You can’t give them things.” FPD’s season ended at 6-5, the first time under the fourth-year head coach the Vikings didn’t win a playoff game. St. Anne-Pacelli improved to 7-4 and will be back in town next week to play Stratford. The first quarter was a near-perfect FPD script. St. Anne-Pacelli had a nice opening possession going, sparked by

Windsor pummels Robert Toombs Christian 57-8 to punch ticket to state title game
Windsor Academy is officially heading to the state championship game, and the Knights wasted little time making sure of it, steamrolling the Robert Toombs Christian Academy Crusaders 57-8 to punch their ticket. Behind five rushing touchdowns from senior quarterback Heath Woodard in the first half and another explosive performance from sophomore running back Jaquan Lewis, top-seeded Windsor dominated the No. 4-seeded Crusaders right from the opening kickoff. The Knights improved to 10-1, extending their winning streak to 10 games, while the Crusaders finished their season 0-11. “They’ve been a great two-headed monster,” Windsor head coach Dylan Bass said of Woodard and Lewis. Windsor’s offense struck immediately after RTCA came up short on a fake punt. On the Knights very first possession of the game, Lewis burst into a near 70 yard run that got his unit all the way to the 5-yard line. Woodard, who came into the contest leading the Knights in rushing touchdowns, showed off his impressive speed as he raced around the right edge for the opening touchdown. RTCA’s second drive started strong before being forced to punt. Woodard added a 35-yard barreling score on the ground on this possession for the Knights. The senior signal caller

Trojans take care of the Warhawks, will host first-round playoff game next Friday
Not everyone is happy about the Georgia High School Association’s new Postseason Rankings (PSR) formula. The Coffee Trojans, however, aren’t among the unhappy. The Trojans, who finished the season 8-2 and in third in Region 2-6A, will host a first-round playoff game next week after defeating the Veterans Warhawks 42-8 in Kathleen Friday night. Under the old system, the Trojans would be traveling for the entirety of the playoffs – most likely heading north for the duration of their postseason run.
