Peshtigo students participate in the annual Victory Olympics
GILLETT — Several Peshtigo School District students recently participated in the annual Victory Olympics held in Gillett. The emphasis of the Victory Olympics is that all students are winners, hence the opening cheer “I am a Winner!” is emphasized throughout the day. Victory Olympics is specifically designed to meet the individual needs of each participant who has physical or cognitive challenges. “Success is not measured by 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place but by each person’s achievements,” said teacher Lisa Grenier. Students have the opportunity to participate in many activities including basketball, bowling, bicycling, face painting, cornhole games, obstacle courses, parachute play, bounce houses and dartboard toss. There’s even a petty zoo. Everyone’s a winner! Participants receive a t-shirt, a certificate of achievement, and a medal. It’s a great day to be had by all, with smiles to last a lifetime, according to organizers.
