Mayor Brown, city council members respond to recent increase in racist vandalism

SPOKANE, Wash. - Mayor Lisa Brown and Spokane City Councilmembers addressed the recent acts of racist vandalism in the city.

Most recently, the Monroe Street Bridge was vandalized with "racist and hateful graffiti".

The city said crews worked quickly to remove the vandalism, but councilmembers said they want to make it clear that racism and hate speech have no place in Spokane.

"This is not just vandalism," said Councilmember Lili Navarrete. "It is an attack on our values and our community."

Mayor Brown said if you see something, say something. Call 9-1-1 if you witness a crime. Call 3-1-1 if you see graffiti or vandalism.
