    Apartment complex fire injures two people, kills multiple pets in Spokane Valley

    SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. - A fire at the Aspen Apartments complex in Spokane Valley injured two people and killed multiple pets early Monday.

    The fire broke out on E. 4th Ave. at 1:30 a.m.

    Callers reported that one of the apartments was on fire and that flames were quickly moving to other adjoining units.

    According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department, the first crews who arrived confirmed visible fire in multiple units of the 3-story apartment building.

    SVFD confirmed two people were injured in the apartment unit where the fire first broke out.

    While both were transported to Sacred Heart, officials confirm one of the people injured is in critical condition with severe burns and injuries related to smoke inhalation.

    According to SVFD, multiple dead animals were found in the apartments while firefighters worked to put out flames.

    The fire burned through a total of six units which are a complete loss, along with the roof over the top of those apartments.

    An additional six apartment units have the potential of smoke and water damage. According to SVFD, those units are currently vacated until an assessment can be made.

    Fire officials estimate a total of 15-20 people have been displaced due to the fire.

    The Red Cross is working to find housing for the people who lost their homes.
