Williamsport, Pa. — Nicholas Michael Stroud, 24, of Williamsport turned directly to the victim of his abuse and apologized. “I’m sorry I put your through any of this,” Stroud said holding back tears and looking directly at the former target of his rage. Motorcyclist killed on Rte. 15 in Pa. was headed to Memorial Day event in D.C.
SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT — A motorcyclist from New York was killed Friday when his vehicle left Route 15 in Lycoming County and struck the guiderail. David M. Nangle, 74, of Painted Post, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:50 a.m. accident on southbound Route 15 at the top of Bald Eagle Mountain in Clinton Twp., south of Williamsport.
Montoursville hosts Memorial Day service
Montoursville, Pa. — Crowds gathered in Montoursville Monday to honor fallen service members at an event hosted by the American Legion. Post 104 Commander Harry Swank welcomed the crowd and the Marine Corp Honor Guard Presented the Colors. The Montoursville High School band, directed by Chris Morgan, played the national anthem, followed by the invocation by retired pastor, Frank Hartzel. The event's guest speaker was retired U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Dennis E. Norman. The service included the roll call of those who gave their all, beginning with the fallen in the Civil War. Cub Scout Pack 21 presented the American Flag before Hartzel gave the final benediction.
Woman racks up eighth round of retail theft charges
Lewisburg, Pa. — A Williamsport woman who previously was convicted seven times for retail theft was charged again. Trp. Brett Harvey of state police at Milton says Arilyn M. Kurtz, 40, was at the Lewisburg Walmart store on April 12 when she under-rang items causing the store a loss of $271. Kurtz used a lower-priced UPC code that she put in the palm of her hand and began ringing up items with it at self-checkout. Police said she scanned the altered UPC code eight times as she rang up higher-priced items. The UPC code was for a $3 item. Police filed 18 felony retail theft charges at the office of District Judge Jeffrey A. Rowe in Lewisburg. Kurtz had previously been convicted seven times for retail theft, according to police. Williamsport, Pa. — Probations officers conducted a search after they noticed a man duck of out sight to meet with another individual near Sheetz in Loyalsock.
