Williamsport, Pa. — Through tears, a man found guilty of being on drugs the day he caused a crash, apologized to his family.

Not once did Jacob Yeick, 27, of Pennsdale look in the direction of his victim, who spoke at the Lycoming County Courthouse Tuesday during sentencing. As part of a plea deal, Yeick pled guilty to aggravated assault while DUI and DUI.

“Weeks after [the accident] it was hard to get into a vehicle,” one victim said during impact statements.

A supporter of Yeick could be heard reacting to statements read by the victim.

Yeick was sentenced to 12 to 24 months on the aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI and 90 days to five years probation on the DUI. Those sentences will run concurrent.

Yeick will also pay $1,500 in restitution to the victim, serve 80 hours of community service, complete a highway safety course, and attend a victim impact panel.

In December of 2022, under the influence of oxycodone and marijuana, Yeick “failed to stop or clear” an intersection at the posted sign of Rabbittown Road near US 220, Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Dylan Houser said.

A passenger inside Yeick’s vehicle was taken by life flight to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. The victim’s vehicle also contained a family member and their dog.

A green pill and medical marijuana vape cartridge were discovered on Yeick, who was passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle. Later, a blood draw showed Yeick was under the influence of oxycodone and marijuana at the time of the crash.

Charges of DUI second offense, duties at stop sign, carless driving, marijuana possession, and possession of a controlled substance were dismissed as part of the plea deal.
