Local students win health-care scholarships
Two area students were named two of four scholarship recipients by a health-care union that represents 5,000 nurses in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Ariana Tabamo of Williamstown received the Barbara Crosby Scholarship, awarded to JNESO District Council 1 IUOE-AFL-CIO members’ spouses or children to advance education in health care. She is a nursing student at the College of New Jersey who will graduate in 2027.
Update: Suspect in Harrisonburg robbery taken into custody in Pennsylvania
The suspect in a robbery at the 7-Eleven on South Main Street in Harrisonburg on Thursday has been arrested. A news release from the City of Harrisonburg, on behalf of the Harrisonburg Police Department, reported to us Saturday morning that Tevin E. White, 29, from Ama, La., was apprehended in Pennsylvania.

Philadelphia-based Republic First Bank (doing business as Republic Bank) was closed on Friday by the Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities, which appointed the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) as receiver. To protect depositors, the FDIC entered into an agreement with Fulton Bank, National Association of Lancaster, Pennsylvania to assume substantially all of the deposits and purchase substantially all of the assets of Republic Bank.
