High school football: Breaking down the top playoff games in Round 2

Clarkston (9-1) will need a big game from quarterback Alex Waszczenko if it hopes to hand Grand Blanc (10-0) its first loss of the season in the Division 1 district final Friday, Nov. 6. The senior dual-threat QB has completed 64% of his passes for 1,116 yards, 11 TDs and two interceptions. He’s also rushed for 404 yards and 11 TDs. “Offensively, it starts with our QB Alex Waszczenko,” Clarkston coach Josh Pintar said. “He is the catalyst to everything we do on offense. Along with our offensive line giving him time and opening up holes in the run game, I expect them to be important factors in how this game goes. Alex is a tremendous athlete who has the ability to make plays both in the run or pass (games), and he is also dangerous on broken plays, making something out of nothing.” Waszczenko is already third in school history with 1,116 career passing yards, recently passing Dugan Fife. He also ranks third with 34 career TD passes, having moved past Tyler Scarlett. Only Dane Fife and DJ Zezula rank ahead of him in both categories. Waszczenko’s favorite targets are Drew French, who has 344 yards and four TDs

Beecher High School cuts the ribbon on an $18M renovation, after being closed for decades

The ribbon was cut today at the newly renovated Beecher High School, marking a rare reopening of a school building that sat closed and empty for more than two decades. The Beecher school district reopened the high school after it closed in 2004 because of a deficit and a drop in enrollment. With $18 million in renovations, Beecher’s high school students now have their own building again. Since 2004, they have shared the middle school.

In Division 3 at Parker Middle School in Howell, Williamston battled Grosse Ile to a scoreless tie through regulation and extra time. MACOMB COUNTY — Voters set Chippewa Valley Schools up for the future on Nov. 3, electing board members and approving a bond proposal. Voters approved Chippewa Valley’s school safety and improvement bond proposal with 28,291 votes in favor (60.74%) to 18,285 votes against (39.26%). The district is authorized to borrow $288 million and levy a millage to refund the borrowed amount. Proposal language allows for the millage to be set as high as 8.64 mills ($8.64 per $1,000 of taxable value), though the millage will begin at zero mills in 2026 and be set at 2.47 mills for the next 25 years.
