Outback Steakhouse closes stores across US, including these in Arizona

If you have an intense craving for the famous Bloomin' Onion from Outback Steakhouse, you might want to double check if your favorite location is still open. In October, 10 Outback Steakhouse locations in the U.S. closed. This comes after a previous round of shutdowns triggered by underperforming restaurants, according to Fast Company . Two of those now-shuttered locations were in Arizona. In even worse news, a major Outback franchisee that's operating 61 locations in five Western states has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Nov. 2, according to Delaware Online. Sam Fox, one of Arizona's most prolific restaurateurs, announced he has stepped away from his group Fox Restaurant Concepts after nearly three decades. The move will allow Fox to focus on his latest venture, Author & Edit Hospitality, which is responsible for The Global Ambassador Hotel in Phoenix and The Twelve Thirty Club in Nashville. In an exclusive interview with The Arizona Republic, Fox said that seeing how much success he's had with The Global Ambassador has inspired him to continue down the path of the hotel business. "I've been in the restaurant business all my life," Fox said. "Being able to go to work and be really excited and getting to learn a whole new sort of discipline within the hospitality business is something that really excites me." It will certainly demonstrate that a Flagstaff eatery can serve the type of elevated cuisine you would expect in Scottsdale. Shift is definitely a deviation from expectations, a cut above. With menus that change with a shift in seasons, Shift is aptly named. For all the reasons Shift is perfectly named, the one shift I might consider is a shift to a venue with a parking lot. Unless you’re familiar with downtown Flagstaff, you might not find Shift easy to find. Sure, your GPS will tell you “you’ve reached your destination,” but you won’t see any glaring signage confirming that you’re there. Nor will you likely find parking nearby. You may have to walk a while to find its Babbitt Building location.
