Parents speak out amidst lawsuit against Lorena ISD and primary school principal
LORENA, Texas (KWTX) - Several Lorena ISD parents are speaking out amidst a lawsuit against the school district and their primary school principal, April Jewell. The lawsuit was filed back in August of 2023 by the parents of a pre-k student after she was sexually abused by one of her teachers, Nicolas Crenshaw, back in 2021.
MHS students participate in Baccalaureate Services
In recognizing the graduating Class of 2024, Baccalaureate Service was held at the Marlin Missionary First Baptist Church, Rev. Vincent Hartsfield, Pastor, on Sunday, June 9. An estimated 25 of the graduating class participated in the event. The Baccalaureate ceremony is usually held a few days prior to graduation. It offers a smaller, more intimate opportunity for the graduating class and their families to pause, reflect on this rite of passage, and celebrate the graduates’ achievements and perseverance. Waco ISD Board of Trustees starts search for new superintendent
Waco, TX (FOX 44) — The Waco ISD Board of Trustees unanimously voted to have the Texas Association of School Boards help them find the districts next superintendent. “There is a lot of work in the school district and we wanted to make sure that our staff, our parents, and our students had this continuity and stability within the district,” said Waco ISD Board President Stephanie Korteweg.

Baylor University raises $1.5 billion in decade-long campaign
Baylor University in Waco, Texas, has announced the conclusion of its Give Light campaign, having raised $1.5 billion since the effort began in 2014. According to the university, alumni contributed 54.8 percent of all funds raised from more than 100,000 individual and institutional donors. Nearly half the campaign’s initial $1.1 billion goal was raised during the silent phase, which concluded with the launch of the public campaign in 2018. The campaign surpassed its goal by more than $400 million, including $166 million raised in the fiscal year ending May 31, 2024.
