3 students arrested after guns found in Newton high school, deputies say
Deputies in Newton County have arrested three students after finding guns inside a high school earlier this month. According to a police report obtained by Channel 2 Action News, administrators found a loaded extended magazine on one of the students on April 15. Welaunee Inn, 1923, Porterdale
The Welaunee Inn originally served as housing for unmarried female employees of the Welaunee Mill, essentially a dormitory. Built in the Tudor Revival style in 1923 [some sources date it to 1920], it had 26 rooms. By the 1950s it was often referred to as the Village Inn, or simply, the Inn. It was sold by the mill in 1966. It’s a massive building, located on Broad Street near the center of town, and has rear-facing wings at either end. It’s still in good condition and though empty at present, has so much potential.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office reported the following incidents:. METH SEIZED: On April 6, Deputy Dustin Mines was traveling north on South Burson Avenue in Bogart when he received an alert that a Mercedes was traveling on Atlanta Highway and the driver was wanted on a warrant. The deputy located the car and made a traffic stop. The driver, a 51-year-old Athens woman, was placed in custody. The deputy spotted some pieces of meth on the seat and located a folded dollar bill that also contained meth. The passenger, a 46-year-old man with a Forsyth address, was placed in custody. Another passenger, a 46-year-old Watkinsville man, was seen throwing some cocaine out the window. He explained the other man threw it toward him after the stop, so he threw it out. A search was made of the trunk and a safe with some meth and syringes was found. The officers located three cell phones, and $2,248 in cash. The two men were both charged with trafficking in meth.
