Building Support: Community Comes Together to Sew Pillowcases for Cancer Patients

RICHLAND, Wash. – The Tri-cities Cancer Center Foundation held an event Friday, May 17th making a difference for people going through chemotherapy.
This is the second year that volunteers have gathered for a "pillowcase party." They cut, fold and sew satin pillowcases. Which are more comfortable for patients who have lost their hair.
But organizers tell Apple Valley News Now the event is about more than providing a soft place to rest: It's a way to build community as well.
“This will go to somebody in our community who got this unfortunate diagnosis who found that they heard those words, cancer and their life changed and knowing that there's even just that little bit of comfort that they're not alone in this, that they're, they know that there's a community behind them, supporting them all the way it’s so important,” Tri-cities Cancer Center Foundation member, Robin Wojtanik, said.
The goal this year was to make more than 300 pillowcases to give to cancer patients throughout the year.
