Passenger Trains Are Gone, But These 10 Historic Tennessee Depots Still Stand

Union soldiers once pulled bricks out of a train depot wall in Tennessee so they could fire from inside. That shoulder-high firing port is still visible today. On This Day in 1930, a Tennessee Governor’s Re-Election Triggered a Banking Panic and Inspired a Country Music Classic

On this day (November 4) in 1930, Henry H. Horton was elected to his third term as the Governor of Tennessee. Not long after he won his re-election, banks owned by his political allies began to collapse. Horton had deposited most of the state’s money into those banks. The resulting financial disaster inspired Uncle Dave Macon to write “The Wreck of the Tennessee Gravy Train.” \

Her song “Rocksteady/HeavyMetal” has been one of our favorite singles of the year, duking it out with Phoebe Bridgers similarly styled “Lost Boys.” Ogier has also been co-signed, in a BIG way, by alt-pop artists like Dominic Fike.
