Jalen Hurts, the star quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, is making some major contributions both on and off the field.

According to Good Morning America, Hurts, who is 25 years old, generously donated $200,000 to support local Philadelphia schools by installing 300 new air conditioning units. Dr. Tony B. Watlington Sr., the superintendent of the School District of Philadelphia, informed the morning show that Jalen Hurts’ generous donation will positively impact 10 local schools and benefit over 5,000 students in the area. Watlington Sr. expressed that “a majority” of the schools within his district do not have adequate air-conditioning, making it challenging to maintain a comfortable environment during hot weather.

“When the temperature climbs higher than 86 to 90 degrees, we too often have to let our kids go home early,” he expressed to GMA. “And that really impacts student achievement,” the superintendent added. Jalen Hurts made the announcement while speaking at a Philadelphia school. “I think back to my time as a student, not being able to imagine some of the things that you guys have to go through,” Hurts reportedly said during his visit to the school. The Eagles quarterback added, “I just want to serve you guys and help in any way I can.”

Watlington Sr. mentioned that Jalen Hurts’ generous contribution will also have a positive impact on the teachers in Philadelphia. According to GMA, he stated, “It benefits teachers, as well, because when teachers have optimal teaching conditions, they’re more likely to return as teachers.”

GMA reported that the district has already begun the installation of the air conditioning units, and Watlington Sr. anticipates that all 300 units will be in place by the start of the upcoming school year.
