A teenage girl is in custody after being suspected of stabbing her grandmother to death in Philadelphia . The alarm was raised shortly after 2am on May 1 when cops received reports of an incident in the Cobbs Creek neighborhood.

Emergency services rushed to a home near South 63rd Street and Spruce Street where they found a 67-year-old woman in a bedroom. She had been stabbed multiple times and a knife was found at the scene.

The woman was pronounced dead and her 15-year-old granddaughter was taken into custody, according to CBS. Capt. Anthony Ganard was asked by reporters if the teen was responsible for the stabbing .

He said: "That's what we believe right now, but I'll wait for homicide to make the determination." The teen called 911 to report the stabbing and opened a window for officers to climb through when she couldn't open the door.

An initial investigation suggests there was a "domestic disturbance" at the home that led to the stabbing. The grandmother and granddaughter lived at the home together and the woman was the 15-year-old's guardian.

No one else was in the house when police arrived on scene. Police didn't have information on a previous history involving the 15-year-old and the names of both the victim and the suspect have not yet been released.

A police spokesperson said: "The victim had been stabbed once in the abdomen and once in the right hand by a perpetrator known to her.

"Despite the swift response of emergency medical personnel, tragically, the victim was pronounced deceased on the scene by medics at 2.17am.

"Authorities have confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the incident, and a weapon believed to be involved has been recovered."
