Voters approve of landlord registry in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, IL – Voters in Sangamon County have weighed in landslide support of a nonbinding vote to create a register of rental landlords and a base requirement for all rent units in the city of Springfield. Results from the Sangamon County Clerk's office show 69.7% voted in favor of a registry of the overall 41,740 votes cast in a landslide victory for housing rights advocacy groups in Springfield. More: Tracking election results across Sangamon County The vote is a key win for The Faith Coalition for Common Good, who campaigned on the topic promoting a base level of safety for all rental housing in the city and holding negligent out-of-state landlords accountable. "Housing is a right and so as we gather our community members, landlords, neighborhood associations that we really want to see something reflect Springfield coming out of this with something that really works for the betterment of our community."
