2 people killed in RV struck by train
TAYLORVILLE, Ill. (WAND) — Two people were killed when an RV was struck by a train in the eastern edge of Christian County on Thursday. The crash occurred a little after noon on E 2300 North Rd. near Illinois Route 48. The initial investigation shows that the RV was traveling east on E 2300 North Rd. while the train was northbound. The RV crossed the tracks and was struck.
Cops, Coffee, And Cold Scoops Event Taking Place This Evening
Taylorville Police Department is urging you to come out to the 3rd annual Cops, Coffee, Cold Scoops event! The event will be taking place Friday evening from 5 PM to 8 PM. Join them at LP Coffee and Creamery to enjoy a free coffee or ice cream cone/cup courtesy of the TPD. The police department will be taking cash, check, or credit card donations to benefit Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Illinois.
Taylorville Music Festival To Take Place Friday Evening
The stage is set, the instruments tuned, and voices harmonized as Taylorville gears up to present its much-anticipated annual Spring Music Festival. On Friday evening, April 26th, at 7:00 p.m., music aficionados of all ages are invited to gather at the THS West gymnasium for an evening brimming with talent and tradition.
Gary Lin McWard
Gary Lin McWard, 71 of Taylorville, passed away at 6:03 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, surrounded by his family in his home. He was born on August 18, 1952, in Taylorville, the son of James and Dorothy (Burke) McWard. He married Brenda Pieper on February 13, 2004. Gary proudly served our country with a distinguished career with the United States Marine Corps., serving in Desert Storm and stationed in California, Hawaii, and Okinawa, Japan. In 2000 he retired from military service as a Gunnery Sergeant, completing a 22-year career. Gary was very proud of his time serving his country and was passionate the rest of his life about supporting and honoring others who served. Following his time in the service he managed Jordy’s Restaurant and owned and operated the American Tap in Taylorville. Gary will be remembered for his love of people and was affectionately known by his friends as “Mac” or “Gunny”. He loved playing pool and was a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and Fighting Illini basketball.

Christian County Sheriff's Office squad struck by driver while stopped on IL Route 48
CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ill. (WAND) - A Christian County Sheriff's Office squad car was struck by a driver while stopped on Illinois Route 48 near Willeys Sunday. Two deputies in separate squad cars were pulled off the side of the highway, with their emergency lights activated when another vehicle traveling northbound on IL Route 48 came up and struck one of the squad cars.
