Six-lane I-94 segment opens between Albertville and Monticello

After three construction seasons, motorists are now traveling on the newly constructed six-lane segment of Interstate 94 between Monticello and Albertville. Westbound I-94 opened to three lanes Oct. 20, several days after the three eastbound lanes opened, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Short stretches at the eastern and western ends of the work zone remain limited to two lanes while crews remove temporary median crossovers and construct the final third lane in each direction. Drivers should expect periodic single-lane closures as crews complete the remaining work. MnDOT expects construction to be finished by Saturday, Nov. 7, weather permitting. The openings mark a major milestone for the $76 million I-94 Gap Project, which has expanded the interstate from four lanes to six between Albertville and Monticello. Preparatory work began in 2024, followed by westbound construction in 2025 and eastbound construction this year. The project also included road reconstruction, drainage improvements, bridge work and two noise walls in Monticello. A future three-mile MnROAD test section along westbound I-94 will be designated for semi-trailers and trucks during testing. Signs and gates will direct trucks through the test lane before they merge back onto the main interstate. Some wrap-up work is scheduled

Highway 610 renamed in honor of Melissa and Mark Hortman

Members of the Hortman family joined state lawmakers and Gov. Tim Walz for the unveiling of new signage designating Highway 610 as Hortman Memorial Highway — in honor of House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. The highway runs through the district Hortman served, which encompasses parts of Brooklyn Park, Coon Rapids and Champlin. The Hortmans’ children, Colin and Sophie, were among the family members who were at the Nov. 5 dedication in Brooklyn Park. “I hope that every time someone drives down Highway 610 and sees Melissa and Mark’s names, they’ll remember the lives they lived, the people they loved, and all they gave to Minnesota,” Walz wrote in a statement. At the ceremony, Walz noted Speaker Emerita Hortman played a "pivotal role" in securing funding for Highway 610. The new name was made official during the most recent legislative session, when Minnesota lawmakers tasked the transportation commissioner with adopting “a suitable design” to display on signage along the thoroughfare. Sen. John Hoffman sponsored the legislation to rename the highway, along with Rep. Erin Koegel. Bridge Construction Begins Nov 16th

(Roseville,MN) – Drivers traveling between Wisconsin and Minnesota will soon need to find another route. The Highway 243 Osceola Bridge over the St. Croix River will close beginning November 16th for a major replacement project. The bridge, which connects Polk County to eastern Minnesota, is expected to remain closed for about a year while crews remove the existing 1953 structure and begin construction on a new bridge. Traffic will be detoured through Taylors Falls using Highways 95, 8 and 35. River access for recreational users will remain open during construction.
