Seitz faces additional charges in traffic death of Belgrade woman
(St. Cloud MN-) Additional charges have been added against a Coon Rapids man for a crash that killed 41-year-old Cassie Mithaugen of Belgrade January 22nd. 52-year-old Chad Seitz is now charged with three counts of Criminal Vehicular Homicide, three counts of Criminal Vehicular Operation-Causing Bodily Harm While Under the Influence, and with Providing a Peace Office with False Identification. Investigators say Seitz was under the influence of cannabis and methamphetamine when his pickup crossed the centerline of Highway 55 east of Brooten and collided with Mithaugen's car head-on. She was partially ejected and died in the crash, and her 3-year-old step-daughter was injured with cuts and bruises. Mithaugen was taking the child to daycare when the crash happened. Seitz wasn't hurt. Unconditional bail is set at $800,000, and $400,000 with conditions.

BCA Says 65,000+ Concealed Carry Permits Issued Last Year
(KNSI) – The Bureau of Criminal Apprehension says the number of concealed carry permits issued was nearly identical last year when compared to 2022. At 65,215, the figure was significantly less than during the George Floyd riots and increasing violence of the pandemic but above 2019, which was at 51,404. Stearns County residents got 1,866, the most in Central Minnesota. Sherburne had 1,621, and less-populated Benton County lagged with 600.

Man who tried to commit "suicide by cop" near Prinsburg charged with assault
(Willmar MN-) A rural Prinsburg man was arraigned on assault charges in Kandiyohi County District Court this week after attempting to commit "suicide by cop" last weekend. 47-year-old Chad Butler is charged with 1st Degree Assault-Use of Deadly Force Against a Peace Officer and 2nd Degree Assault with a Deadly Weapon. In court Tuesday Butler was denied a court appointed attorney, Judge Jenna Fischer recused herself from the case, and unconditional bail was set at $500,000. His next court appearance was set for March 6th.
Two are injured in a crash near Brooten
(Brooten, MN)--A crash on Monday near Brooten has injured two people. The crash took place near Johnfield Road and 443rd Avenue in North Fork Township. According to the report, a caller reported that a vehicle had gone off the road. A Chevrolet Equinox driven by Alexis Lhotka, 19, of Morris, had tried to make a turn, lost control of the vehicle, and had proceeded into the ditch. Lhotka and a passenger in the vehicle suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Benson man arrested on murder charges for Willmar drug death
A Benson man has been arrested and faces murder charges in Kandiyohi County for the drug-related death of a man in Willmar. According to KWLM, a warrant was issued for the arrest of 27-year-old Lateef Mahaffey last August after he was identified as a suspect in the death of a man who was found dead in his bathtub in September of 2022. The man died of fentanyl toxicity, and Mahaffey and Mercedes Carpenter of Maynard were accused of providing him with the drugs.
Car-SUV crash west of Litchfield send Richmond woman to the hospital
(Litchfield MN-) A Richmond woman was hurt in a car-SUV crash on the west side of Litchfield Wednesday night. The state patrol says it was reported at 7:43 p.m. when a car traveling westbound on Highway 12 and an SUV that was eastbound collided as the SUV was turning onto Highway 24. Neither driver was hurt, but a passenger in the SUV, 70-year-old Jeanette Hemmesch, was taken to CentraCare Rice Hospital in Willmar with non-life-threatening injuries.
