Two Road Construction Projects Begin Today (Monday) in Wright County
The Wright County Highway Department reminds motorists that a pair of projects that will require road closures begin today (Monday, June 5th). A culvert replacement project will begin today (Monday) on CSAH 8, just south of 105th Street SW in Woodland Township and is expected to wrap-up by Thursday, June 8th, weather permitting.
Two-Car Crash Kills One, Injures Two
A two-car crash left one man dead and two other injured over the weekend. The crash happened around 1 p.m. Saturday on Highway 169 in Elk River. Sherburne County Sheriffs say one car lost control while making a change into the right lane, striking the front of the other car.
Central Minnesota Mourns The Loss Of K-9 Handler Deputy After Motorcycle Crash
Heartbreaking news was delivered on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 from the Morrison County Sheriff's Office via Facebook. A former Morrison County Deputy named Dave Scherping, passed away after being in a motorcycle accident in Sherburne County. Dave was a former Deputy and K-9 Handler for a number of years, according to the Facebook post. He is the father of the current Morrison County K-9 handler, Austin Scherping.
Summer Celebrations in Wright County Roll Out Later This Week

Several Local Individuals Injured in Three Separate Sunday Traffic Crashes
Four people from our region were injured in three separate traffic crashes Sunday in Minnesota. The State Patrol reports around 4:45 PM Sunday, a Wright County man was injured in a motorcycle incident in Kimball in neighboring Stearns County. Authorities say a Yamaha motorcycle was westbound on Highway 55 at Maus Drive in Kimball when the bike had a mechanical issue resulting in a crash. The motorcycle rider, 36-year-old Jared Bakeberg of Howard Lake sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the St. Cloud Hospital. The Stearns County Sheriff’s Office, and the Kimball Ambulance and Fire Department assisted at the scene.
Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall will be in Monticello
The traveling replica of Vietnam Veterans Memorial will be in Monticello in July. The exhibit is in its 28th year and includes a three-quarter-scale replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial along with a mobile Education Center. The wall bears the names of the 58,281 American men and women who died during the Vietnam War. The traveling memorial is scheduled to be at Pinewood Elementary School, 1010 Broadway East in Monticello, from Thursday, July 20, to Sunday, July 23.
Honduras man killed in collision with Corvette
(Elk River MN-) A man from Honduras was killed when his car collided with a Corvette in Elk River Saturday afternoon. The state patrol says a Honda driven by 32-year-old Kelvin Gomez-Landero and the Corvette were both southbound on Highway 169 at 1:07 p.m. Saturday when they collided during a lane change. The Honda left the road and struck some trees, killing Gomez-Landero and injuring two passengers. The driver of the Corvette, 23-year-old Kyle Flor of Zimmerman and his passenger weren't hurt, and the state patrol says alcohol was a factor involving Flor.

The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of a former deputy after he died in a motorcycle crash this weekend in Sherburne County. One business fails tobacco checks
All but one business passed a recent round of compliance checks at all businesses that sell tobacco in Elk River. The checks were conducted by Sherburne County Public Health and the Elk River Police Department on May 24. Elk River Police Capt. Joe Gacke said the business that failed the check was Speedway, 200 Main St., where an employee sold to an underage person. The employee was cited.

Buffalo man killed in car-SUV crash
(Buffalo MN-) A man from Buffalo was killed in a crash in Buffalo Thursday morning. The state patrol says at 9:52 a.m. 88-year-old Karl Blomgren was driving his car westbound on Catlin Street, and an SUV driven by 63-year-old Linda Narine of Delano was northbound on Highway 25 when they collided in the intersection. Blomgren was killed, and Narine and a passenger were both taken to the Buffalo Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

88-year-old driver killed in Buffalo crash
BUFFALO, Minn. -- The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a multi-vehicle crash that killed an 88-year-old driver in Buffalo late Thursday evening.The crash happened at about 9:50 p.m. along Highway 25 at the intersection with Catlin Street.According to investigators, a Chrysler Crossfire and a Buick Envision collided in the intersection. The driver of the former, Karl Blomgren, of Buffalo, was killed in the crash.Two people were in the other vehicle, and sustained non-life threatening injuries.Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash.
