Uptown shooting raises safety concerns
MINNEAPOLIS — Minneapolis police are still looking for the shooter who injured four people outside of a business near the intersection of Lyndale and Lake in Uptown. According to the Minneapolis crime dashboard, shootings are actually down in the entire Fifth Precinct, which covers the Uptown area. Year to date, shootings are down from 47 to 39 cases. Shots fired calls are down too, from 653 to 577. Carjackings are down as well, compared to 112 last year and 66 this year.

Motorcyclist Fatally Struck at Brooklyn Park Intersection ID’d
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner has identified the motorcyclist killed by a driver last week at a Brooklyn Park intersection. Ronnie Rowles, 59, of Anoka died when his motorcycle was struck by an SUV about 8:50 p.m. on Sept. 20 at the intersection of County Road 81 and West Broadway.
AG Ellison declines to take over murder case after victim’s family objects to plea deal
The family of Stephen Markey say Moriarty is wrong to offer Husayn Braveheart less than a year of workhouse incarceration and probation for the deadly 2019 carjacking of Stephen Markey in Minneapolis. Braveheart was 15 at the time. The other defendant, Jered Ohsman, was 17 and is serving 22 years in prison. Earlier this year, Walz and Ellison removed a murder case from Moriarty over similar objections to a similar plea deal offered to a juvenile offender in a murder case, but Ellison said then that he didn't anticipate making a rare decision like that again. He reiterated that stance in a statement to the Star Tribune.

Vietnam vets recognized in Maple Plain
On Friday Sept. 8 th, the Rotary Club of Orono, in partnership with US Congressman Dean Phillips, organized and sponsored a recognition ceremony for Vietnam-era veterans and their families. It was a beautiful morning, with scores of American flags flying as a backdrop in Maple Plain’s Veterans Memorial Park. Phillips individually acknowledged and honored 15 veterans with a commemorative pin, recognizing their sacrifice and service to the country. After each veteran was honored they were invited to come forward and share about their experiences if they wanted to. It was a moving ceremony and celebration. Guests sat around the memorial. Four mayors -Charlie Miner, Long Lake; Jennifer Labadie, Shorewood; Marvin Johnson; Independence, and Julie Maas-Kusske, Maple Plain - three police chiefs, one fire chief, three council members, Representative Kristin Robbins, and one school board member in addition to neighbors, friends and family members were all on hand to show their appreciation and honor to the veterans. Following the “pinning” ceremony, the Rotary Club sponsored a luncheon at McGarry’s Pub where club members and honored guests were able to enjoy a delicious meal and spend time together sharing stories and getting to know one another.
