Vehicle fire destroys truck
VAN WERT — An under-the-hood-engine- compartment fire destroyed a Dodge 1500 pickup truck in the Walmart parking lot. The Van Wert Fire Department received the call at approximately 3:27 pm. Wednesday. Upon the firefighters' arrival the truck was smoking heavily under the hood. The firefighters immediately started putting water on the vehicle. It was quickly put under control.
One hurt in crash
CONVOY — At 9 a.m. Tuesday, the Convoy Fire and EMT units were called to a semi/tanker accident. The truck, which was hauling milk, was traveling on Lare Road, got off the paved road, traveled about 100 yards on the soft berm before rolling onto its side. The driver was transported by the Convoy EMT unit to the hospital for treatment. About half the load of milk leaked into the field. The rest was transferred to another tanker trailer. Jackson Heavy wreckers righted the truck and trailer. Units on the scene were the Van Wert County Sheriff's Office, The Ohio State Patrol, EMA, Convoy Fire and Rescue units. Coroner rules Fort Wayne toddler’s January shooting death a homicide
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WPTA) - The Allen County Coroner’s Office has now ruled the death of a toddler who was killed in a shooting in late January as a homicide. Court documents say 23-month-old DaiLoni Edward Hollis Daniels was found lying in a bed with a gunshot wound to his head in a home on Shawnee Drive on January 27. He was then taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Welcome to Antwerp Manor Assisted Living located at 204 Archer Dr. in Antwerp, Ohio. Traditionally we have crowned our Valentine Queen and King on Valentine’s Day but this year we made an exception. Queen Cindy Meglish Smart was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2023. She has been undergoing chemotherapy treatments for several months. Her last treatment was this past week so she was feeling well enough to join her Euchre partner, King Dick Gasser for the crowning. Dick is a good friend of Cindy’s and to support her hair loss due to the treatments he agreed to wear a wig for the crowning. Cindy and Dick have become close friends here at Antwerp Manor. They truly care about each other.
APT Manufacturing Commit Investment in Archers’ Future Generation at School Board Meeting
The April Antwerp School Board meeting took place on April 23 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting began with Superintendent Dr. Marty Miller announcing the guests at the meeting. APT Manufacturing made a $5,000 donation to the Innovation Center and Kyle Zartman gave a presentation of what will be added to the science center to bring about automation education to the schools. APT is a company in Hicksville that has been making a significant contribution to the food automation industry.
