Middletown wants voice in legislative reappointment
MIDDLETOWN – Mayor Joseph DeStefano would like Middletown to have a seat at the table as the Orange County Legislature discusses reappointment of the 21-member body. The city has two representatives at present, but the mayor said only one is working as Legislator Joel Sierra, who claims a work-related disability, has not attended one session since being sworn in a year-and-a-half ago.
Sullivan County students raise awareness for World No Tobacco Day
LIBERTY- This year in Sullivan County, almost 75 students participated in Chalk the Walk events in Roscoe and Monticello for World No Tobacco Day to expose big tobacco and raise awareness in their schools about the dangers of vaping. The Chalk the Walks were completed as part of the students’ CATCH My Breath vaping prevention program. The students went outside and wrote facts about vaping and tobacco, quit/support lines, and hashtags including:
53-year-old man arrested in Town of Crawford of shooting
CRAWFORD – A 53-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting on Thursday morning in the Town of Crawford that left the victim critically injured. Anthony Parrish has been charged with first-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon. The Town of Crawford Police Department responded to the area of Route 17K and Teplitz Court at 8 a.m. on Thursday for a report of a 37-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds.

Nine projects given green light in Port Jervis’ $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant
PORT JERVIS – The State has approved nine projects to move forward using the $10 million Downtown Revitalization Initiative grant it was awarded. The projects include over $2.6 million to revitalize Riverside Park to include reconstructing the water tower to include a “Welcome to Port Jervis” sign, a new pavilion, all-inclusive playground, stage and amphitheater, pickleball courts, basketball court, skatepark and mini-golf course.
