Newburgh Man Nabbed With Loaded Gun Following Chase, Police Say
The incident occurred in Orange County on Wednesday, July 24, around 11 p.m. in the area of Third Street and City Terrace in the city of Newburgh. According to Newburgh Chief of Staff Mike Neppl, detectives from the department's Non-Fatal Shooting Task Force were patrolling the area, which has experienced a rash of narcotics complaints and shooting incidents.

Hoovler announced that on Friday, July 19, 2024, Damante Stansberry, age 24, of Wallkill, was sentenced to eighteen (18) years to life in prison after previously pleading guilty to Murder in the Second Degree in the Orange County Court. At sentencing, the People recommended that Stansberry be sentenced to twenty (20) years to life in prison for his role in the homicide.

Domestic violence shelters and service providers across New York State now have access to free Overdose Emergency Kits. This initiative is a partnership between the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence (OPDV), the Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS), and the Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS). The kits are provided through Project COPE (Community Overdose Prevention Education), funded by a grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
