E-15 Ethanol: Good for the environment but how much does it save you?
OTTUMWA, Iowa (KYOU) - Thanks to a waiver signed by the Environmental Protection Agency, Iowa is allowed to sell E-15 Gasoline through the summer. “E-15 really became commercially available in 2013 in the state of Iowa,” said Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship’s Deputy Secretary, Grant Menke. “The laws that were written for fuel at the federal level did not contemplate E15 fuel blends being sold when they were written. Basically, every summer, in order to sell E15, the EPA had to provide a waiver to allow those blends to be sold in the summertime. So, in 2019, the Trump administration issued a rule to allow for year-round sales of E15. In 2021, a District Court overturned that decision. And so, we were back into this situation of needing a waiver.”
