    Maintenance schedule for week of May 20 released for Centre County

    CENTRE COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced the following schedule of maintenance activities in Centre County the week of May 20.

    Bridge Maintenance & Cleaning

    • Interstate 80 between mile marker 138 and the Bellefonte interchange. Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24. PennDOT will implement short-term lane closures while completing this work.
    • Route 322 between the Oak Hall/Boalsburg interchange and the Old Fort interchange. Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24. PennDOT will implement short-term lane closures while completing this work.

    Pennsylvania has some of the oldest bridges in the country, with an age of more than 50 years on average. Preventive maintenance is vital in extending the life of the structures.

    Guide rail

    • Interstate 80 throughout the county. Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24. PennDOT will implement short-term lane closures while completing this work.
    • Interstate 99 throughout the county. Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24. PennDOT will implement short-term lane closures while completing this work.

    Manual Patching

    • Route 192 (Brush Valley Road) between the intersection of Route 144 in Centre Hall Borough and Route 445 Madisonburg Pike in Miles Township. Monday, May 20, and Friday, May 24. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
    • Route 2004 (Cedar Run/Linden Hall Road) between the intersection of Route 45 in Harris Township and Oak Hall Regional Park in College Township.  Monday, May 20, and Friday, May 24. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

    Most permanent pothole patching is completed in the spring/summer when temperatures stay consistently above freezing.

    Pipe Replacing & Cleaning

    • Route 144 near the intersection of old Route 322 in Potter Township. Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
    • Route 192 between the Village of Madisonburg in Gregg Township and Route 445 (Madisonburg Pike) in Miles Township. Monday, May 20, through Friday, May 24. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
    • Route 53 between the intersections of Water Street and Route 322 in Philipsburg Borough. Monday, May 20. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
    • Route 3044 (Front Street) between the intersection of Route 322 and Railroad Street in Rush Township. Tuesday, May 21. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
    • Route 3029 (Ninth Street) between the intersection of Route 322 and Route 53 in Rush Township. Wednesday, May 22. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.
    • Route 350 between Presqueisle Street in Philipsburg Borough and the Blair/Centre County line Taylor Township. Thursday, May 23, and Friday, May 24. Flaggers in the roadway will provide traffic control during daylight hours.

    Pipe replacement and cleaning are essential in maintaining water flow around state roadways. Controlling water flow is one of the most important aspects of maintaining pavements.

    Shoulder Maintenance

    • Interstate 80 between mile marker 138 and the Milesburg interchange. Monday, May 20, through Thursday, May 23. PennDOT will implement short-term lane closures while completing this work.

    Shoulder cutting removes excess material and debris from unpaved shoulder areas. Shoulder grading involves the shaping and stabilizing of those same areas. Both operations improve drainage, allow water to leave the roadway, and eliminate shoulder drop-offs.

    Vegetation Management

    • Interstate 99 between mile marker 56 at the Blair/Centre County line in Halfmoon Township and the Bellefonte interchange at miler marker 85 in Spring Township. Monday, May 20, through Wednesday, May 22. This work takes place on the shoulder and has minimal, if any, traffic impact, however PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution through the work zone.
    • Route 322 between the Penn State University/State College interchange and the Centre/Mifflin County line in Potter Township. Wednesday, May 22, through Friday, May 24. This work takes place on the shoulder and has minimal, if any, traffic impact, however PennDOT urges drivers to exercise caution through the work zone.

    Mowing, herbicide spraying, and selected tree thinning help maintain a safe roadway free of obstructing vegetation, improving visibility to spot signage, traffic control devices, and other motorists, bicyclists, pedestrians and animals approaching the road.
